:thepan: HELP-Changing a break light-HELP:thepan:

Ok so my left rear break light is out, and I was looking at how to get the bulb out last so I could go down to auto-zone and get one.

First I took off the plastic molding which is held on by the cargo net clips, then I pealed back the carpet, now comes my questions

It appears the tail light is held in by some nuts, any one know how many, and do I have to take the whole tail light out just to change a bulb?

HiYa Joey,
No GM didn't make it easy!! I did it a long time ago. It's either 3 or 4 Bolts to release the tail light. Since its apart replace all the bulbs rather than waiting for them to blow and have to do it again. I bet the other side blows soon as mine did.

Bob
Gerrrr thanks robert, ha my GTP had 3 wing nuts and poof your tail light was off,

Once i get the light assembly out it should be as simple as clips to get the bulb out right, any one know the bulb part number.
Joey--check with Lindsay Cadillac for the bulb p/n. (Or just pull the old bulb and take it to the parts desk, lol.)
Broken Brake Light?
GM will likely say they are built that way so that the tail lights do not blow away in the middle of a toronado or hurricane.

umm i dont think so, it lights up, just doesnt get brighter when u hit the breaks, If im correct its a two filiment(sp) bulb so porb the brighter part burnt out, all other functions work, blinker and reverse light, so i would assuem its just the bulb
Sorry, I was being an ass. Your spelling of the word "brake" just got me going.

Nevermind.

Hmmm, had the exact same problem with my left brake light last week, and changed it this weekend. I used the cadillacfaq instructions - http://cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/changetaillight/index.html - it's just 2 nuts holding it in. Also needed to replace the rear-side marker, too. This link has most of the bulb numbers - http://cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/bulbs.html - you need a 3157LL.

YOU THE MAN :)
so i swaped out the bulb but during one of the nuts dropped into the fender,DOH.. but for real could they make swaping out a bulb any harder there as no room to work or for tools.

anyway anyone know the size of the stud so i can go to home depot and get a bolt, or the part number from caddy for thoes bolts.

could that lose nut i the fender cause problems
lol some people should not be allowed to work on cars...

just drive the car to your local auto parts store -- when mine went out i didnt even take the bulb out, i told the guy at the store the tail brake light was out, he asked the year make & model and gave me the bulb i needed.

what u can do is take the car to a hardware store or something & show tell the guy what problem your having -- he'll look at it and give u the necessary bolt/nut/stud/whatever....
