We drove here from Washington to support Ron Paul for President at the Iowa Straw Poll. Ron Paul and the supporters got a bar/club to ourselves in Ames.

I got to take my picture with Dr Paul and the future first lady.

WOOO!!!!!

We saw this pull into the gas station.

We had a bar entirely to ourselves. The owner invited Ron Paul to speak to us supporters.

A supporter's RV, monkey and all.

Me, and the future First Lady.

Dr Ron Paul

I bought a magnet for the trunk of our car.

Some photos of the drive from Washington to Iowa:

We rented a Mitsubishi Galant from Budget. I asked for a Town Car or Fusion, but this was perfectly sufficient. Tons and tons of room, reasonably quiet, nice handling, reasonably smooth, just enough power to cross the mountains, and a reasonably responsive transmission. Nothing bad about this car except the styling, which was weird and confusing. Everything else was somewhere between just above average and pretty good. 25mpg. The ideal rental car, I guess. I'd never buy one, but I'm happy to borrow it.

Passing through Idaho to Montana.

Kyle drove most of the time while I poked around the internet and got some work done thanks to Sprint wireless data.

We pulled into a parking area in Montana for a smoke. There was no civilization in sight, and the sky was wide open, allowing us to see every star and galaxy. They don't call this Big Sky Country for nothing.

Every single hotel or motel I could find on Priceline and Travelocity was booked, so I went to Google and looked up every hole in the wall lodge, B&B, and motel on I-90 until I found the Trails Inn of Sheridan WY. Good service, comfy bed, and a shower head that was almost powerful enough to knock me to the floor.

Not sure what these weird looking fences are for. A test-run of the new Mexican border?

Chamberlain, SD

We arrived at the Microtel Inn and got the VERY LAST ROOM in Ames, Iowa.

Tons of support in Iowa. We'll see if that translates into votes at the straw poll.

Dont know who that guy is.

We were interviewed on the street by the Des Moines Register.

The reporter on the left, his girlfriend on the right, and some guy in the window.

This RV and monkey are owned by the "Granny Warriors"

Yeah, I dunno.

It got really packed inside and outside.

Mrs Paul signing a shirt.

She's a campaign coordinator.

Kyle gave a radio interview.

That's Ron Popeil (not sold in stores! order now toll-free!) lol.

Ron Paul is, I believe, the only true Republican running for his party's presidential nomination. Due to forum rules, I'll stop there.:thehand:

If ya get a chance, check out the Great Plains Sauce & Dough Company on Main Street - gourmet pizza that's to die for. Also Hickory Park on South Duff - excellent bbq & sinful, mouth-watering desserts.

Taught at Iowa State for a few years & still pass through at least once a year on the way further north - nearly always spend enough time to hit one or both.
