Major progress.

WHAT it took: I wasn't going to reinvent the wheel. I found a unit, PERIPHERAL GMAA GM CLASS 2 DIGITAL AMPLIFIER INTERFACE does what I want, but there were problems.

1. The connectors are different for the CTS-V (Thanks BLOWS and Delphi).
2. The inputs use transformers (BLAH!) for the audio conversion which are major sources for distortion (unless you use really good ones which they don't).

I yanked the transformers and installed the circuit I use for the conversion.

So, I bought enough stuff to make four convertors, which will be "plug and play" when I get the right connectors.

Sorry to be about 10 years late.........

Is this something we could still get in on since you have figured it out? :D How much would one be looking if we send you the core nave unit?
For this modification you don't do anything to the HU.

This mod replaces the BOSE amplifier.

I have had no problems so far with it.

I have one or two spares with parts to build a couple more.

This is not the same ultimate radio mod from the ls1tech boards? I remember reading about using the internal screen and adding a mac to it with surround sound. I am assuming that this is the audio side of the modification. Are you able to add a video and audio input to the factory unit and retain all the canbus functionality

----------

when I try to go to the mp3car.com link posted it shows as an invalid link.

I have several modifications for the audio system and HU.

Here is a link for the HU:http://www.mp3car.com/forum/general/show-off-your-project/worklogs/156630-a-mac-d-v

The other modification is to replace the BOSE amplifier or add to it.

Thanks for your interest.

So I'm wayy late to the game here, but is this something you're considering making a plug and play system you will produce and sell? I'd be very interested in this. Hella cool.
I am always open listening to anyone who is interested.
For the HU modification, the parts cost around $250.00 the labor would be around the same.
For the amplifier interface, the price I am considering is $250.00 and I am only making a few.
The connector is the showstopper right now as it also is the speaker wiring interface so I would need to add breakout wires for each speaker to the connector.
You can PM me.

So, almost another 4 years later.. I've stumbled across this thread. I have an '07 CTS base and have been considering adding in a factory nav unit to get something better than the ugly base radio and of course still have the DIC. However.. in looking over this thread, wow there are some options.. better options even.

How easily do you think I could add in video unit that could give me nav, gps, audio and perhaps even a freaking bluetooth capability!?

Have a look on YouTube. Search "How to install a double DIN in CTS" and a series of 3 videos walk you through the process.
