This is awesome Heavy! Is there a way to install a relay and have the b/u camera come on when in Reverse automatically?
It comes that way , with reverse priority so you don't you need a relay, just wire it up.

I wired up the VGA select switch to "force rear camera" so I can turn on the camera without turning on the backup lights.

I am also wiring into the reverse light switch.

Sometimes things go right (not often enough for my liking, but I'll take whatever).

I clear space in the garage to work on the V and it took longer to prep the area then it did to do the job.

The first wire I probed was the correct one for the back-up camera trigger.

Took less the 5 minutes to splice into and put back together.

Now when I shift into reverse, the back-up camera comes on and has screen priority.

Two weeks ago on a trip out to the golden state I had the chance to visit Mr. Heavymetals and he was kind enough to let me drive around in his car and play with his prize radio.

I must say when i got in the car I was like.. hmm not much to see here. Looks stock. Which is exactly the look I'd go for. With the exception of a couple pinhole LED's and a switch everything retains the stock appearance of the CTS interior. The screen can be made much brighter than stock and the clarity is very good. When flipping over to "mac mini input" it was clear that this was a high resolution screen. The font were tiny but super crisp and visible on his itunes playlist.

The temporary/ziptie mac mini placement behind the center console would be my only gripe about the whole setup. And that really isn't an issue for anybody with a can of resin and a roll of fiberglass. I was doing some brainstorming and came up with a few good places to stuff it into that would make it remain accessible without taking away from the "stock" look. For the continuous work that Heavy is doing at this point it's the perfect location for him to have though.

I must say adding a rear backup camera in our cars is a nice feature, and the fact that it comes on and overrides the stock display automatically is even nicer. The night vision on the camera was decent and you can even enable it during driving with the flip of a small hat switch. Heavy pushed it further adding a front camera which is actually really great for parking in tight spaces and seeing how close you are from crunching the front lip for all you lowered guys.

Heavy has clearly put in a lot of time and has got his sound system dialed in real nice with his 5.1 conversion. The sound fidelity was impressive. The highs didn't pierce my ear drums, the mids were nice and crisp and the lows had good thump without sounding muffled or distorted.

Once I clear out a few of the projects I'm working on, this mod will be next on my list of things to do.

Thanks for the hospitality and letting me drive your bitchin' ride!

Keep up the good work!

UPDATE:

I found a chip that would convert the differential audio signals from the radio to single ended, so then I could convert the signals to TOS and feed it to the Mac Mini.

I had to find software to get it to work, but now I can play the OEM radio through the Mac Mini and I have volume and tone control.

This can't be done just with the OEM radio as the volume and tone are controlled by classII sent to the Bose amplifier.

Science triumphs over superstition again!
