Your heating system will not be affected by the compressor being off. It will function normally. What it will affect is your defroster. The compressor is designed to come on when you activate your defroster to remove humidity inside the vehicle to help keep your windows defogged. Without the compressor operating, the windows may fog more but you will definately be warm and toasty.
