Heathers blows before thermostat opens

I did a searchon topic but nothing came up like what i am experiencing on my XTS Platinum. When you first start the car the heater fan motor blows before the thermostat opens so the air is cold, so cold it freezes everyone in the car, Mt DTS doesn't do this; it just doen not blow at all until the thermostat opens. ON two seperate occasions two differnet techs have checked this and say that is normal. That I cannot beleive Caddy would make a system like that but they BOTH said everything is "working within specifications and paramaters". They said turn the heater OFF until the car warms up or use the remote start every time....Anyone else had this kind of a problem???

No car holds heater blower operation until the thermostat opens. NO car. You wait until that DTS engine hits 188 in winter and you must drive around in a deep freeze from November to March.

Your DTS personalization settings may be somewhat different from the XTS - Read the owner's manual or turn the HVAC system OFF until you have some indication of engine heat.

Even in this 11 degree weather I can get some heat out of the STS system in 1.5 miles.............. BUT I don't blow 11 degree air at my feet until then, either - the HVAC system stays OFF until I see the temp gauge move a tad.

Remember: The heater and engine block circuits are the first to heat - the thermostat only opens to send a bit of coolant to the radiator when necessary.

For further in-depth info on the two HVAC systems you own, study the proper year/model GM/Helm service manuals. It's all spelled out in those - in great detail - and you'll be amazed at how sophisticated the two systems are.
Thats funny, i remember that now, my dts used to wait a minute or so before the blower would turn on....nice feature
Mine does the same thing by blowing cold air immediately. Prior cars I've owned have all waited until the engine warms up some before the blower fan will activate. My dealer also says this is normal. The "solution" is to turn it off until the engine warms up some and then turn it on. Bad design IMO.

This is confusing and not helpful or accurate!
Some (earlier) Caddy's DO hold off the heater blower until the engine is warm, including STS and DTS, BUT the XTS (mine included) starts blowing immediately, and the cold blast is annoying! Where in the manual does it say how to stop this?
Re: Heaters blows before thermostat opens

Nowhere does it say how to stop it. It is designed that way.
Well mine doesn't blow till I drive about 1/4 to 1/2 mile. The distance I drive seems to be relevant slightly to outdoor temp. And when it starts blowing it's warm.
Could the maximum air setting of which I have set to medium on the CUE have something to do with it?
You are saying that on a cold day immediately after startup nothing is blowing and then after driving only 1/4 mile you are already blowing warm air? Are you letting the car warm up some first before driving?
I checked mine this morning. it was -4 out. I started the car in the garage and took off right away. The fan started to blow about 3/4 of mile from home but not at full force. It came on faster in about another 1/4 mile.

All of my previous cars with Automatic Temperature systems worked the same way.

Are you guys using the auto setting or is it off when you start the car??
^^ That's what I'm wondering...I have it always set to AUTO and it didn't blow cold air on me when testing it at lunch. Just like my other cars, I got nothing until it became slightly warm. (did not use remote start)
Mine is always set to Auto. When I start the car it immediately begins to blow cold air. The dealer says this is normal. I say no but what do I know?
Strange...the only things that I can think of right now is the CUE version we are on might be different OR max fan speed is set differently, which shouldn't have anything to do with it. (heck, I'm not even sure what mine is set to now...lol) For what it's worth, I am on this version of CUE:

HMI Version - 12.5V035_R2_P33
GUI Framework - RBEI.MY13.5E_10
Build Version - GMG2_LINUX_12.5E058.1

Hey, CUE has done some magic tricks for me lately...now my bluetooth is working fine but then again, I had a weird "glitch" that made the whole center stack flash on and off last week.
This might be a far fetched hunch. Is your drivers side and passenger side in sync with each other? If the passennger side is set real low or real high that could create a problem too. Go to the snow flake on home and check it out. tap "SYNC" if necessary to bring both sides to the same temperature. We're trying to figure this out.

No warm up
I did it today, cold start, about 45 degrees out.
It automatically was blowing on windshield on Low, as soon as temp gauge moved off of cold, it shifted to the floor and a little to dash vents and I had heat.

Jeff I have the same setup you have.
Just a thought but maybe we ALL have the same issue but some folks such as myself aren't noticing it. I have my max fan speed set to medium and am thinking that I simply don't hear it when it's blowing cold but slowly??? (it would most likely direct the air to the floor but again, I don't hear or feel the cold air) I can tell you that is NEVER ramps up until the it's warm. Thoughts?
No idea Jeff. Mine is set to Max fan and Auto all the time. There aren't any other settings to change. My bet is all operate the same but maybe some people, like you said, just aren't noticing it as much as others. Is yours always set to Auto?
I have not noticed this issue. I set to "Auto" then turn off AC mode via CUE. This dims the "Auto" but the blower does not hammer me with cold.... hmmm. if i notice anything different i will post....
