Do the job yourself, $500 is way to high. The small torx bit is the only "uncomon" tool needed, fortunately I had a set that I got when I replaced the head gaskets. You will want a 7mm socket and 7mm open end wrench. The heater box cover is a tight fit to remove and install, but it will come out (We have a 94 deville, 4.9L). The hoses on the heater core came off rather easily, I think we were lucky. Its great to have heat again. This was way easier than the Mustang we used to own and way more complicated than our Scouts :)

This is a relatively easy fix considering on my Mustang it would be an absolute nightmare to do. Usually the Cadillac "fixes" are either real expensive or a PITA, but oddly enough this one is less stressful than on most other vehicles I've had. The idea about pulling the heater hose off the other end first works well by the way.

The write up for heater core replacement from Krimson-Cardinal is dead on. His step by step directions made this job very smooth. My new core did not come with new foam strips, the original ones were in good shape. I spent alot of time troubleshooting this problem(had little to no heat on drivers side). I found if the temp. on outlet/inlet hoses are noticeably different by feel, the core is plugged. I also shot the hoses with a infared thermometer and I had about a 25 degree diff. I took the plastic tank off the old core and I couldn't believe the sediment that was packed in there.

Hi Everyone i'm working on a 2002 Cadillac Deville Dts HEATERCORE LEAKING DO I HAVE TO PULL THE CENTRE CONSOLE OUT TO GET TO IT?
Welcome to the forums! I moved your post from a thread in the '04-07 CTS-V forum - not sure how you ended up there  - into a thread about heater core replacements in the correct Deville forum. Hopefully you can read through this thread and answer your question, or a fellow Deville owner is able to chime in and help you out.
