On my 01 Seville, the headlamps are constantly on. Reason being is there appearently is a malfunction with the Auto Lamp feature. When I have it switched on, my lamps are on all the time. If I turn that feature off, I get the "headlamps suggested" display on my DIC even when it is beyond sunny out.

Could this just be a bad light sensor? Or rather, Photocell. Or something more indepth?

Where do you think I should start? I would like to get this problem corrected mainly because I plan to get HID upgrades and just don't want them runnning constantly. Plus, I of course want everything to operate correctly. :bouncy:

As a side note..I finally got my payment book in the mail for my car. I was quite thrilled. :banghead:

Hello,

I have been experiencing the same symptoms out of my 98 SLS for over a year now... I also figured it to be a bad sensor / photocell but had not gotten around to troubleshooting it yet...

Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you... All I can offer at the moment is the small comfort that you are not alone and this may be a common problem...

Also, I am troubleshooting another issue at the moment and will look into the headlamp problem while I am investigating the other... I will get back with you as soon as I find more info.

Good Luck,

Bonz

Thank you very much, I appreciate the thought.

Hopefully there is someone here who could give us both an idea of the best, or most common, place to start.

It's probably the sun load sensor. The "HEADLAMPS SUGGESTED" gives it away. It thinks it's dark out - there's not much else to suspect. The only other thing would be some sort of malfunction in the wiper circuit where it thinks the wipers are on, but I doubt it.

Good luck!

Sure sounds like a faulty photo cell but don't confuse the photo cell with the sun load sensor. The sun load sensor (dome shaped) is for the A/C system. The photo cell is the flat one.

This happens to alot of folks (happened to me also), when first getting thier Caddy's. Maybe someone should post a sticky on the subject, as it would help alot of new members.

I did the same thing when I first started driving my car. Since the wipers don't wipe unless they 'see' moisture on the windshield, you don't know that they're on. Now it's the first thing I check when I see the "LIGHTS ON" message during the day.
