You never know.. All it takes is slowly raising the price and providing better service to those who are willing to pay. They just may come around.. Look at Volkswagen? They're ready to drop Audi and move on with their own luxury cars. It's only a matter of time before we're all on a level playing field...

I don't think Kia is too worried about competeing against those car companies. I would think they are more competeing against the Hyundai.

I don't know, because I don't think that 30 years ago Toyota really tried to compete with all the American car companies and look where they are today! That's how they undermine the domestics, because they offer a lot for a little. Look where the Toyota Corolla is today, they are the number 1 selling car (I think I read this, correct me if I am inaccurate.) They mentioned on the tv news that 60 percent of Americans would not buy another American (domestic) car again!! In this regard, Americans are undermining their own economy, aren't they??

Those 60% are, well, dumbasses. We're in a bad time for the economy and here they come buying Toyotas and Hondas. Just like one time I saw a Honda CRV with American flags all over the outside and inside, the flag out of the window, the flag bumper sticker, the flag magnet, an animal dressed with American flags clothes as a bobblehead, and a lot more. I dont know if she realizes its a DAMN JAPANESE CAR!!!! People need to be more educated about the cars they buy. The people that probably responded no to that vote were ricers, tree-huggers, (no offense...actually offense. I got a gas eater that swallows gas up and coughs it out like theres no tommorrow. one reason we bought our escalade ;) ) women who knew nothing about cars, except that some are cute, and the people that unfortunatly bought an American lemon and aren't willing to give them another chance. Maybe the economys down cause no ones buying domestics. And those same 60% are probably the ones that keep complaining about the economy too. Makes me so mad!!! If we goto war with Japan, people will say, "I support the U.S. in their troops. Just dont destroy the car factories cause I'm looking to buy me a new Toyota." :banghead:

I see nothing wrong with buying a USED import, since someone already supported foreign nations, and buying it will support the american economy.......

If I had a foreign car I certainly wouldn't expect to lose my right to be patriotic.. In any case, domestic cars will rise again. It wasn't very long ago (early 80's?) that there were more domestic cars on the road than foreign cars. Right? It took quite some time for people to start buying foreign cars over domestics. In time, as domestic cars are being made better, things will shift again... It'll just take time.

I'm led to believe that domestic cars were made to break down in time - years ago... I've heard this time and time again. Supposably, it was to make more money after the sale rather than have a car that needed little maintenance.. I really wouldn't be surprised if this were true. Many people do believe this to be reality. In that case, than we really screwed-up. But, we know better now...

Awwwww, those Toyota Corollas are just sooooooo cute! LOL. Unfortunately, in Canada, because of our dumb-assed laws for environmental protection, I see a lot more Toyotas and Hondas. We live under the fear of Kyoto being passed, but thats another story I won't get into. I do firmly believe that if you buy a Honda, most of that money will go overseas, after-all it's a Japanese company. But I am confused as to whether a Honda can really be called a foreign car when they are made for Canada in Ontario, and also somewhere in the U.S. for your market as well. I know psychologically, somewhere in the back of my mind I cannot ever consider a Honda a Domestic car. So I am confused.

Sal, I hear what you are saying about the older domestics made to be breaking down, I've certainly heard this as well. But there are just too many '70's cars still running around for me to firmly believe that. My dad has a '79 Nova and has been absolutely trouble free except for tires, etc. I think there were and are still bad examples made of all types of cars. If you want proof of this, go to MSN's homepage and type in any car manufacturer and then click "consumer experiences." This is where I love to do reliability research and hear it from the people who own them. There are still many problems reported from Honda and Toyota even though they are brand new. I haven't checked the so-called best of the best "Lexus" yet, but that will be next.

I wish the Northstars were carbuerated pushrods too. It would give them the low end grunt that they need. And I guess if you buy a used import, it wouldn't hurt the American economy. I really hope that countries would leave America alone and let us do the car sellin. Also, no more SUVs! If we have to have them, then I'm fine with like Jeep Wranglers for people that use them RIGHT, or an SUV that will tow, like our Escalade, if you NEED to tow. I admit, we dont tow, but we needed that extra cargo so that we could seat a family of four plus their luggage since we go on 14 hour road trips annually, and we needed the Cadillac luxury.
