I don't think Kia is too worried about competeing against those car companies. I would think they are more competeing against the Hyundai.

I don't know, because I don't think that 30 years ago Toyota really tried to compete with all the American car companies and look where they are today! That's how they undermine the domestics, because they offer a lot for a little. Look where the Toyota Corolla is today, they are the number 1 selling car (I think I read this, correct me if I am inaccurate.) They mentioned on the tv news that 60 percent of Americans would not buy another American (domestic) car again!! In this regard, Americans are undermining their own economy, aren't they??

Awwwww, those Toyota Corollas are just sooooooo cute! LOL. Unfortunately, in Canada, because of our dumb-assed laws for environmental protection, I see a lot more Toyotas and Hondas. We live under the fear of Kyoto being passed, but thats another story I won't get into. I do firmly believe that if you buy a Honda, most of that money will go overseas, after-all it's a Japanese company. But I am confused as to whether a Honda can really be called a foreign car when they are made for Canada in Ontario, and also somewhere in the U.S. for your market as well. I know psychologically, somewhere in the back of my mind I cannot ever consider a Honda a Domestic car. So I am confused.

Sal, I hear what you are saying about the older domestics made to be breaking down, I've certainly heard this as well. But there are just too many '70's cars still running around for me to firmly believe that. My dad has a '79 Nova and has been absolutely trouble free except for tires, etc. I think there were and are still bad examples made of all types of cars. If you want proof of this, go to MSN's homepage and type in any car manufacturer and then click "consumer experiences." This is where I love to do reliability research and hear it from the people who own them. There are still many problems reported from Honda and Toyota even though they are brand new. I haven't checked the so-called best of the best "Lexus" yet, but that will be next.
