I keep hearing how crappy the Goodyear RS-A tire is, yet it is being offered on the '06 CTS-V.

I know that many of you CTS owners have (had) this tire on your cars. Could I hear any comments you might have, pro or con, on this tire? Performance, tire wear, etc.?

I was able to get 30k miles out of the RSA's. But, the ride wasn't that good.
especially after the tires wore a little. the way the tires was wearing i thought
i had a front end problem. the dealer told me they had problems with all of the RSA's. i replaced the tires in July with a set of Bridgestone Taranzas. so far no problems what so ever.

I think it is a decent tire. With this type of tire you can only count on 25,000 - 30,000 miles so I don't get what everyone complains about. The ride has been good, but I cannot directly compare it to another tire on the CTS as I have not put new tires on yet. The ride is affected by several factors - tire size, air pressure, road conditions ect... 31,000 miles currently and stil going, but they will need to be replaced soon. I really can't complain about them at all, but probably will not buy them as replacements - still undecided on what will go on next.

Replaced mine at about 18,000 miles. They cupped quite badly despite rotation at 5,000 mile intervals.

As I've not yet been able to find a buyer willing to pay a reasonable price for the CTS, we're using it as a third car. Replaced the RSAs with Michelin HydoEdges. I know - not a performance tire, but it basically goes only to and from the golf course (15 mile round trip)... Don't trust the rear end much further than that...:hide:

I got 38000 on my RSAs - they started cupping and making lots of noise. I rotated & balanced every 5000 mi. and kept it aligned. Now I just bought a set of Yokohama AVID TRZs w/80000 mi warranty. They have an asymetrical tread and they look pretty good. I'll have to see how they hold up.

I've got the W-rated 17's. It's a decent tire. No obvious bad behaviors in the 3500 miles I've had the car.

No memorable positive behaviors either, other than that it is reasonably quiet for a tire labeled 'performance'. If I were GM, I'd make the same choice as an OEM (not much $, offends no one, etc.)

I have about 14K miles on mine and there is still plenty of tread. I asked the guy at the tire shop about them when I had my wheels swapped. He said RS-As typically last 20-25K miles, which I don't consider acceptable on a vehicle that's not a sports car.

I want a tire that will last 30-40K even if I have to give up a little handling. I plan to replace them with Avon Tech M550 A/S or Yokohama AVID V4S tires.

My experience with the tires so far: No complaints about the handling. They are noisy on certain types of pavement or when hitting imperfections in the road. They spin and slide more than I would like in snow and ice. They spin too easily on wet pavement or under hard acceleration. I can spin them at 45 MPH on a damp road without completely flooring it and without performance mode on. I have to drive almost like I'm on ice when it rains. I can't imagine what a V is like with these tires.
