It never ends.

I'm a good person. I'm nice most of the time. I don't cheat on my taxes. What have I done to deserve all these bumps in the road???

Now I have the Service Ride Control message. It goes away if I hold down the Information button. But of course, it comes back when I restart the car.

I'm going to look into how to check codes. Something I've yet to learn.

I assume this doesn't automatically mean my struts are bad. But since I'm getting this message does it mean I have those fancy dancy struts or will something else set off this intimidating message?

I also made the mistake of running a Car Fax report. I've been had. No accidents, except for this most recent one, but odometer readings are WAAAYYYY off. And the word "Auction" was present more than once...

But surprisingly I'm still fond of the car. Its a love/hate relationship, I suppose.

Did you see the odometer and auction red flags BEFORE you bought this car. There seems to be a lot of things that are creeping up. This might be one of those cars that will nickle and dime you to death and sour you on Cadillacs. Have you considered cutting your losses and finding a nicer, less problematic one? Let us know what DTC's you get.
Its not so much love/hate as an addiction: "the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics," (or driving Cadillacs) "to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma." You'll get used to it. My last Caddy :thepan: me to death so I sold it and bought another; clear addiction. Behind every warning message should be the codes that set it off so pulling codes should always be your 1st step. You're right, the SRC message doesn't mean your struts are bad, I believe level ride problems can also trip the SRC message. As for the CARFAX, many times a car goes through multiple auctions which doesn't mean its a lemon, sometimes dealers will flip cars through auctions if they don't have the right market. Anything that stays on the lot too long goes back to the auction to try something else. For them its all about moving inventory. I got my STS at an auction and its a whole different world there. The mileage issue is completely different, that should somewhat track through CARFAX unless some tinkering was done along the way.

We ran the CarFax after we bought the car. As in, yesterday. I really had no idea you could run CarFax in Canada. Why? I'm not sure.

4.6 N*.

Love it. Ranger, you're right. If it begins to cost a mint, I'll sell it. Or something.

Car was listed at the mileage it has now back in 1998. Then it was listed at 100,000 km more than it has now in 2001. In 2005, its listed at roughly what its at now, give or take 20,000 km.

Yet it seems to run great. If you can ignore the chirp. Good power, good gas mileage, no shifting problems, no leaks.

I've always wanted an STS. Now that I have one & I'm not willing to give up just yet. However, a nice cushy Buick Century is looking pretty nice...

Its called the Century because that's the average age of the people who drive it. The STS will be more pain, but look at it as a learning experience. If you had a Buick, all you'd know is how to find the gas door and the ignition. With the STS you get to learn about head gaskets, active suspension, etc.
If you see anything wrong after this, get rid of it.

Hang in there a while and see what happens. Maybe you can get these things straightened out and you'll have a much nicer car than a Buick. When and if you decide to cut and run, you can always find another STS and you'll be better informed.

Is it possible the mileage discrepancies are due to a mix-up between MILES and KILOMETERS by the reporting agency? Did the car ever cross the border to the U.S. and then go back over? I'm just trying to think of things that might have caused the odd numbers....
How hard is it to muck with an odometer? I also thought maybe it was a conversion thing. I'll have to take a better look at the report & see if its even been to the US. I was hung up on the discrepancies & that was all I really looked at

I'm just surprised the car runs so well if it was as many Kms as CarFax says it does.

This car reminds me a lot of My Buick Reatta. Really nice car. Really nice ride. Yet I never seemed to be able to get rid of the bugs.

As for the Century being a geezer car, that might be so. But a 3.8 is obviously way less expensive to maintain &/or rebuild if necessary.

I'm not knocking Cadillac. Nope. Not at all. I'm knocking myself for not being informed when I bought the car. I didn't do research. I should have checked into it. I ran a search at the bank. No liens = good to go.

So lets see what news the mechanic brings to me today. I'm hoping something not too expensive.

Thanks for the advice. I know my troubles are obviously getting annoying, but you people are full of knowledge. I'm attempting to become a sponge. Knowledge is power.
