Well THAT blows!
The Automotive News article mentions that it should be around 'til '05 though and goes on to say that Ford admited that it wouldn't be needed when the new "car-based" ute shows up in '07. So it COULD be around awhile.
Personally, I think they're wrong about the Aviator being too much like the Explorer. If you go look at the Ford SUVs, ALL of them, you'll see that the Aviator resembles the Navigator more than anything. True it's the SIZE of the Explorer/Mountaineer but interiors, exteriors are nothing alike, and the drivetrain is TOTALLY unique.
After talking to my buddy that owns the Lincoln dealer, I think the biggest reason Aviator isn't selling is that it's too well hidden within the Lincoln lineup. All you see is Navigator this, and Navigator that. And to be honest, I think most people don't even know there IS an Aviator. Even on the lots, you can't tell it apart from the Nav.
What the hell, I guess I'm driving Lincolns best kept secret.

It is pretty strange, I figured with the Aviators price point and features it would easily eclipse sales of the Navigator. But your right, it is hard to tell the difference between the two, they need to throw some more marketing behind it.

I first saw the Aviator inside a local mall. The first things I thought were:

1. Oh wow. That must be the new Navigator.
2. It looks like it might be a little smaller...

By itself, I had no idea it wasn't the Navigator (I didn't take a very close look). Put the two together, and you see a big difference in size...

Yeah guys.. It's okay to talk about competitors and other makes/models here. That's what this forum is for.. Even so - talking about other makes and models happens quite often. Imagine a Camaro site that didn't allow talk about Mustangs? :p

The important thing to remember is that few households that have a Cadillac are Cadillac ONLY. Most will back up the Caddy with an SUV and it will seldom be an Escalade.
So like it or not, most of our members also own cars other than Cadillacs and it would be irresponsible of us to not recognize that fact or allow our members to freely comunicate about their other cars.
I certainly don't want to portray the image to our members that we care about your Cadillac issues but could care less about your comments or issues with your other cars.
