Im going to go ahead and buy the gmx550 right after I write this post. I just dont know where to go with regards to the bluetooth. Is there anything I should be buying over another device? After buying the handsfree stuff, can I use the nav screen to dial, recieve calls, call display etc? Can I also use the phone button beside the onstar to open the handsfree function? I have an iphone is that matters. Id like to have full iphone capabilities all on the nav screen. Ive just fnished learning about the lockpick, but now i need to figure out what to do about the handsfree bluetooth stuff and how it works with the lockpick...if at all.

In short, i wanna be able to press the phone button on rearview, and have the keypad come up on the nav screen. Is this doable? What is the best option for me to get all of this?

thanks in advance

No, if you want to be able to have the dial pad, and use the OnStar phone button, you need the VCIM OnStar module with Bluetooth detailed elsewhere in this section. For the LockPick's bluetooth input, you MUST be in the satellite radio mode or you won't be able to hear the Bluetooth input at all. If ALL you want the Lockpick for is just for Bluetooth, you are better off buying the VCIM. If you want the best Bluetooth experience AND the other functions of the lockpick (video input, DVD unlocked while driving, direct ipod integration so you can see the title and artist on the display screen and advance tracks with the steering wheel controls etc) then you will need both.

shit, you have alot of info play, thanks for all this help.

Ya i want the lockpick for the capabilities of watching dvd while in motion, artist/song from ipod on nav screen, searching thru xm fully in motion, the POI on nav.

The vcim sounds like exactly what i want for my handsfree phone. I want to press the button on rearview, and either dial number on nav screen or use the voice dial. I dont want to have to touch my iphone to dial.

Where would i find this vcim with bluetooth? are there yearly models that have to jive with the year of my truck? is this something to order from gm or buy from ebay? Is it simple to install like the gmx550? This is yet another thing i know nothing about.

No problem, check further back in that thread you replied to and you will find all the install pics. In fact, this is how I figured how to take apart the dash pieces to put in BOTH the VCIM *and* my Nav unit. You can do your lockpick AND your VCIM at the same time because the VCIM rests right under the radio, which you have to take out to install the Lockpick. It's just one more step of removal and replacement basically, and the VCIM isn't even bolted in, it just snaps in between two posts.

thanks, I went to dealer today and went to parts and asked if they could order the part, they had no idea what i was talking about, so i told them id call in the part #. Is there different types of vcim i can buy? Im guessing the part # on the sticky above is the same one im looking for. But ive looked on ebay too and there is one available that im thinking about ordering now, but its a totally differnt part # then that of the sticky thread. the link is below

It is important to note that you will NOT be able to order these through the dealership. The reason is because they require a part-exchange and only if the original part was faulty. Even then, the dealership would swap it back for the same part, not a newer model vehicle part. GM controls these very strictly, which is why Ebay or the forum really is your best place to get them. That part number should work fine, but I wold check through that thread if anyone has tried that specific one.

Sorry to hi jack the thread but are there any lockpicks that can do what the 550 can do but without have to be pushing the mute 5 times or have to lock my car 3 times to activate each function, I dont want to have to remember all that stuff

I am by no means an expert on this topic, but i believe the reason we would have to use the existing buttons (ie. window unlock/mute button) is because of the lack of buttons available. and not having to add to the wiring harness??? I wonder if its possible to install new buttons on the dash to replace buttons not in use (ie. window wiper heat). Even adding a couple new buttons to the dash wouldnt be too much trouble for a talented audio upgrader. I think the whole idea of plug and play motivates people to buy this product but at the same time takes away the option to add new button features. As far as i know, the 2 unlocks available in the straight plug and play are the window lock (2X) and the mute (4X on and 2X off). I dont think there is any need to memorize any other buttons unless your looking at adding cameras or extra dvd players etc. which im not interested in anyhow.

In short I cant answer your question about the other lockpicks, but with the reputation the gmx550 has built, you cant go wrong with the annoyance of pushing pre existing buttons, IMO anyhow...which isnt worth a whole lot, lol
Its not so much memorizing it that turns me off, it just seems kind of budget to me, not to sound like a snob or anything. Im just happy to be driving my dream truck finally that i never thought i could afford!
