New member here. Looking over an '89 Seville-owner lost both keys. Today we went to Caddy dealership with vin number and I.D. After waiting 15 minutes or so parts guy told us GM didn't have the chip number or code for this vehicle. Any suggestions on how to get a key for this car.

thanks in advance,
RG

Kevin,
Thanks for your response. Without going into details getting it to the dealer could be an (expensive) problem. Would you happen to know where I can get the resistance values the VATS module is looking for. I'm told there's about 16.

Thanks in advance.
Bob G.

PS. I took a look at your car. Beautiful ! ! Never heard of an FTS before but that sure is a good looking wagon. Use it well.

I don't know if all GMs are the same, but I'd bet they are. Here are two pages that list them.

ckucia,
Thanks very much. Unfortunately I couldn't open the 2nd link. All I get is a blank page with an "http" icon in the upper left. I deleted "Files/vats1.pdf" and got to the ast web site but couldn't get much past that.

Would it possible for you to email me the page ? I'd really appreciate it.
It's "[email protected]".

Thanks very much. Hope I can return the favor some day.

Will do. that page requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, so if you don't have it, you won't be able to open it.

The resistance figures won't help you. That just tells you what the key COULD have in it. It doesn't tell you what SPECIFIC figure the VATS module is looking for. SO unless you want to cut a key with all the possible blanks (15 as I recall) you need to get the actual figure. If you can't take it to a GM dealer, I'd suggest looking up who was the ORIGINAL selling dealer and contact them. They can look it up from the invoice. You MAY be able to get the figure through GM customer service too.
