I'm trying to negotiate a deal on a 2006 Merc S65 AMG, and I'm trading my 2004 V with 15,000 miles. They offered 28 grand!! What the H*ll? Blue book is like 39! I realize that's too high, but what's a reasonable trade-in for this car? Thanks

That is to low. I got offered 41K for my 05 (fully loaded) with less than 4000 miles, the KBB trade in price was 46K for mine.

GTS21, I think that they could Show you more than that!! They were giving/showing me $36,000 towards a 2005 VETTE. I am just going to sell it outright.
Good Luck,
Ginnie

I wouldn't expect much more than 28 for an 04. I had the same mileage on my 05 and almost received 38 for it.

One advantage in some states for trading in a vehicle is that you only pay tax on the difference between the new and old vehicle prices.

We are screwed because they sold brand new 05s for around 47 a few months ago and even cheaper now ($41K).

Where are you located ? Where are you buying the Benz?

Please email/post the miles, tire condition, previous paintwrk history, etc.

I gave up trading cars in a long time ago.

Too many last minute changes by the dealers to the deal, etc...

If you want it to move, put it up for sale at or near the current auction price--that's probably the most you'll get from a dealer outright for a used car. If they offer you more than that for it, they're basically subtracting from the amount they're willing to deal with on the price of the new (or other used) car. Hit the dealer right at the end of the month/year, too.

Okay, a little progress. They've upped the trade-in offer to 30,500 from 28,000. Still disappointing, but a little better. :banghead:

Now offer them less for the Mercedes, a lot less, and see what they do.

Figure out where you want to end up ultimately with the price of the new car, and offer less, so you can ultimately get to the price you want. Do it by phone....

I think we'll all be faced with this come trade-in time. $28-$30K for '04's and $33-35K for '05's. BOHICA

Thats about as good as your going to do. You might get lucky and be able to offload it on someone here for 34... but then you are almost back in the same boat because you will lose your trade-in tax benefits. Its six to one half dozen of the other.

I'd take 30,500 and run. They are going for less than that on Ebay. Black book around here is 28-30K for mine with 23k miles. Kelly Blue book's site should just be scrapped its so wrong. Just look on Ebay.
