hey everybody, i just got my 2000 sts and i love everything about it. but, it seems to get worse gas mileage than my 94 sls. i looked at it today on a long highway trip and it got around 20-22 mpg whereas my sls got around 25-28? also, on my sts when i cruise at 70 mph it reads about 2500 whereas my sls would read right at 2000? now, is this normal for both of these cars? or am i looking at a problem in my new car like O2 sensors, injectors, etc...?

anybody with a 98-03 sts, please tell me what your car does in these categories so i can compare. thanks

it probably will while the STS has a redesigned N* to save gas it has a 3.71 tranny as opposed to the 3.11 in the SLS therefore using more gas

Sounds about right. While I am not sure of the exact differences in RPM, as Cadillac1997ETC mentioned the STS has a lower final drive ratio and thus will turn higher RPM at any given speed, resulting in lower fuel milage.

That sounds about right. Ranger is correct. My 97 ETC turns 2500 RPM's at around 74 on the freeway. The gearing in the 300 hp motors is different, resulting in more rpm's being turned....

I get around 18-20 in the city, and 22-24.5 on the highway, with the cruise on, at 75.

I initially was concerned that there was something wrong with my car, but I have concluded, with some great advice from people on this forum, that there is nothing wrong with my car.

My gas mileage droped 22 mpg to about 18 mpg, checked the air pressure in the tires all four were about five lbs low, back up to 22-23 after proper inflation

Nope, thats right. Your gaining 30 ponies over your old 94 and the drive ratio makes it use more gas.

My 94 eldo get about 24-26 going 75 or 80 if we dont have the usual 30+ mph wind agiast us like we usually do here.

ok guys, thanks. i just wish there was something i could do to improve this
You wanted a high powered luxury car and you got one that weighs 5000 pounds and has 300 HP. What do you expect? If you want economy, buy a Corolla.

What are you guys with the 3.11 final drive (SLS, base Eldo) getting? I get 28-30 mpg avg. on the highway with the 275 hp engine. Love it. 2000 rpm in overdrive for me is about 77 mph.

At 70 MPH I turn 1950 RPM. When I drove back from where I bought it In Ohio (450 miles) I was getting over 31 MPG til I got into NW Indiana and the Chicago suburbs. That brought me down to the high 20's.
