I came across this map update thru link on On Star Website. It's for 2019-20 Cadillacs and on sale (see receipt). I ordered and received it today. Popped out NAV SD located in armrest storage area and inserted the 2021 SD Car. It prompted if installed it will work only in this car. Very fast install as it uses the SD card unlike my other GM vehicles that took close to an hour.

I recd GM email advert today to update my 2020 Escalade maps from same company (Dutch) At same ”sale” price $99. Comes on USB thumb drive. Install manual says it require’s 50 minutes, and the vehicle must be running and in PARK the entire time. That’s crazy. Anybody else updated a 2020 car? Is the new data worth it?

Sadly, world-class Cadillac that are considered the 'Standard of the World' sells cars that do not have maps for any region outside of North America. If anyone knows if I can get an updated map of Europe to replace my NA map I would be grateful. As usual Cadillac does not think their cars travel across the world but they do - they do.....

I'll take it one step further. I inquired every year for updates since I bought my 2018 ATS new. Their website always said "you have the latest updates available." A bit misleading because GM finally said in late 2024 that they no longer support NAV updates on my vehicle and others. Actually, they never offered a single update for my ATS, and in 2024 they finally decided to tell us. So I have an embedded NAV system in my Cadillac that I cannot count on being accurate given that it has never seen an update. And using my phone paired to my CUE system is not how to fix the problem. I want 13 satellites guiding me over relying on cell towers. My next vehicle wont be a GM.

Thanks for the lead. I called On Star and unfortunately the rep said that they go to the gmnavigation website for their GM updates. And that website continues to say I have the latest updates available, which is misleading because GM never supported NAV updates for my ATS and other GM vehicles. So its not that there are no needed updates, GM just doesn't offer any. Funny though, their websites also recommends updating your NAV every year. Sad actually. But the On Star rep said if I purchased one of their plans it would come with the latest Nav updates. But its separate from the factory Nav. Ugg..

Sadly, Cadillac has withdrawn support for all NAVs - it realised it could not compete with Google Maps so it has done a JV with Google - it means that in all your new Cadillacs you will have not CarPlay but you will have Google Maps - free for 3 years and then by payment. GM wants to make its money off of services - not selling cars. This makes it a good investment but at the risk of irritated car customers - oh well.
