Hi I just replaced the fuel pump in a 2005 sts v8. The pump tested fine on the bench the ohms changed when moving the float however when installing it in the car the gas guage shoots all the way up then back to empty and wont read.

Sounds like a bad connection at maybe the plug or a ground wire.

I thought about that I fear it could be the body control module too. the gauge stopped working after I disconnected the old pump and would not work again when it was reconnected the old or the new. I made the mistake of disconnecting it before pulling the fuse which may have confused the computer

You might try reconnecting the negative battery cable, if that don't do it, it should have a code set.

I can't get a connection with my obd2 port anymore which makes me think the body control module is going out

Check your cigar lighter fuses first. This 12V is shared with the OBDII port.

Okay but the car has other symptoms such as the side mirror on the right side will go down when I back up but will no longer return to its normal place
