Fuel gauge and temp gauge not working

I have a 2005 CTS and both my Fuel Gauge and Temp gauge are not working. Additionally I get a message that I need to service the Anti-Theft system. Any suggestions on where to start? I have a feeling this is out of my ability level, but I don't want to overlook anything simple..

After doing some searching of the old threads, these seem to be the classic symptoms of the ECU going out. I've found a couple places online that will sell me an ECU that has been programmed to my VIN. I'm fairly competent mechanicly, but typically only on older things without much in the way of electronics. Is this something that I could conceivably swap out myself? Or any other general thoughts?
