I just got my 96 deville back from the body shop where it had been for the better part of 2 months, my fuel door and trunk release will not work from either the RKE or the dash switch, I checked the fuse , it was good. any help would be great. by the way the battery was out of it the whole time it was there and the tech said he had a hard time getting the security system programed, don't know if that helps or not.

The fuel door / trunk release on my 94 DeVille do not open with the dash switches, the trunk does open with the remote. The Valet Sw is on. The CB under the hood and fuse in trunk are ok. Everything worked before I took it in for a transmission overhaul.

Broken wires
This post is for anyone having issues with trunk release not working, license plate lights not working, trunk light dim or not working, etc.
I have 2 2004 deVilles and have repaired at least 4 broken wires on one car. You need to splice in an extra 6" of wire on each broken wire.
The problem is that the wiring is too short and repeated opening and closing the trunk causes flexing of the wires until they break.
Cadillac needs to smarten up and use better wire and appropriate lengths.
This bundle of wire can be located in the trunk on the upper left (drivers side) corner.
You may need to partially remove the liner.
Regards
Mike

The trunk release is one thing, the fuel door is another, and (as in this thread's original question) the trunk release/fuel door combination is yet another (Valet switch/fault).

The trunklid wiring chafe problem has been exhaustively discussed and documented (very recently) since the original post 11 years ago - in the Deville, Seville, TechTips, and in the Electrical threads.

There are repair techniques and schematics posted.................. :horse:
