Hi, Group,

First time here.

My daughter's '99 Catera has had minor electrical issues since day one, and now several items are working intermittently, more often not at all.

They are the fuel door, trunk release, radio, no-press power window travel (now must hold buttons), and possibly other functions that we have not noticed.

I located and removed what I believe to be the K134 Module (the large gray plug-in box pictured in the fog lights thread). I removed and re-soldered the board, although no tabs appeared to be cold joints. This did not help.

Is this the correct module, and if not, can you tell me where it is on the 1999? If I did pull the correct module, is there any other possible fix for this particular group of items? As it is, I cannot even fill the gas tank.

Many Cadillac dealerships in my past (Atlanta GA, South Jersey, Bucks County and Philadelphia PA) have been first-class outfits, but the local service department where I now live is as close to incompetent as they come. They overcharge for parts and service and have never fixed anything correctly. I would hate to take the car there. By the time they finish installing and charging me for incorrect guesswork, the fix will cost more than the value of the car, if they can fix it at all.

Can anyone help? My daughter loves her Catera, but mom and I won't let here drive it until we feel it is reliable.

Thank you and warmest regards,

Hi, CG,

I've had several suggestions, but nothing has panned out so far.

The suggested Multifunction Module is out of stock and unavailable through GM, and I have been unable to locate the part anywhere. Two legitimate vendors took my order, but both have refunded the price and told me that the part is out indefinitely.

Two members gave me instructions for accessing the fuel filler, and I will try to get to that today. If the fix works, I least we can fill the tank.

I used to think it was my VW kit car, but I'm pretty sure that the Catera may be the new Hitler's revenge! The electrical issues make Lucas look like the Northern Lights!

Warmest regards,

Well I was told by the Dealer here in S California that it is in stock. I however did as one of the gents in the forums suggested. Take out the Relay and check for Cold(damaged, or not fully soldered) contacts. I re-soldered all the contacts and put it back in, did not fix anything. I then read from another forum that it could be fuse 10, I checked it and it appeared to be good. I then read that it could be a shorted Heater Auxiliary Water Pump, I found out that there are 2 of them BTW. The one I checked was the one on the passenger side. I disconnected it and then reconnected it. Bam the Fuse blew completely I suppose since for a split second or two I had the radio working again, I tried another fuse and pushed the trunk button Wallah it worked and then the fuse blew again. I ordered the Pump from Rockauto.com it will take around 5 days to receive but it only cost me $66.oo dollars versus dealer price of $268.00 I will respond when I put it in and test it. I would be happy to purchase the Relay if you really want to get it from the Dealer here in SCALI. If you want I can check stock status and let you know. If and when you need to replace the radiator you can order it from radiatorbarn.com for $129.00 dollars. I have spent 80% of my time on the net researching issues with this car. Unbelievable.

Hello, my helpful friends,

So far, I've tried soldering the posts on the module to no avail. I am also still unable to locate a replacement module, but no longer looking at the moment.

I located a water pump in the engine compartment on the passenger side, disconnected the harness then reconnected it. No change, and the same features are still not working. I also replaced the #10 fuse to no avail.

I'm still unclear about the pump. I found a water pump under the hood, but I have no idea what a Heater Auxiliary Water Pump is, what it (they) looks like, where it (they?) is or how to find it (them -- one post referred to the car having two HAW's). Obviously, if I disconnected and reconnected the wrong pump, the test was pretty much invalid, and the pump could still be the problem.

I did follow your directions to open the fuel door. THANK YOU! It did open after I removed the solenoid. This was a simple procedure, since only two screws secure it to the framework. At least we won't have to sell the car for not being able to fill the tank. That's good to know.

So my daughter's Cadillac is now officially the Fred Sanford car. I even went so far as to tie a length of medium cord around the manual trunk release and run it into the back seat compartment so we can open the trunk without getting half our bodies inside of the trunk behind the rear seat -- which would be impossible to do with luggage or other items in the trunk. I'm tempted to break the antenna and stick a wire hangar in there just to make a point.

We still need your help in understanding the module a little better before I continue trying to find one. So far, it appears that only the following items are not working:

Fuel door release
Trunk release
Radio

Are these three items -- and ONLY these three items -- out because of the module?

Apparently the power window issue we were having is not related. The right rear window still operates up and down with just a touch of the button, although the left rear and both front windows require holding pressure on the buttons throughout their up or down travel.

The map lights work and always have, although I believe that these lights were called out in another thread as being part of the module issue.

Does my problem sound like the module to you? If the module was bad, are there other features besides my three that would go out along with it? If more than the three should not be working, the module is probably not the problem.

Any more help? You folks have been great so far.

Thanks again, and warmest regards,

I think the window buttons can be programmed, so you don't hold it down for it roll up or down. Check the manual.

Pretty sure the module could be the problem for the fuel door, trunk and radio issues.

Here some pics if these help. There are two identical pumps as follows,

09120117 V(L81) PUMP,HTR WAT AUX(ACDelco #251-606)

One on the RH side (Passenger is laid to the side just below the Coolant reservoir/overflow).

The other one is LH front to the left of SAI (Secondary Air Injection valve) and is standing up and is called "Auxiliary Water Pump".

In summary,

LH: Auxiliary water pump run by relay #K22

RH: Heater Water Auxiliary Pump Run from Fuse #10

Hope these help but info on K134 is not readily available to me.

Cheers and good luck.

Hello everyone. I received my HAWP, the aux water pump, I installed it, by the way it is the one pictured above the one near the passenger side of the engine compartment, these are the items it took care of. Radio now works when the engine is running and I am driving, the Door locks now actuate to Lock when out of park and to unlock when in park, Map lights now turn on, all this after I replaced fuse 10. Items that it did not fix: Trunk release and Fuel Door release. Bummer, but we are making progress. I attaching some very useful information for these issues and for I believe is the fix for the power windows issue you are having. I am going to go for the K135 since if this does not fix it, I am suspecting it is the BCM and I am not going to go there I will leave a cable tied to the Emergency lever for the trunk and leave the motor off for the fuel door.

I had to add these items that I just found. It appears that the K134 Relay may have something to do with the Trunk and Fuel door not working I am going to check them right now.

cguerrero great work and congratulations on your progress. I personally don't have any of the issues in this thread but just reading and trying to help if I can.

The way you have sectionalized the now working versus trunk/fuel door pending is great too. I was reading yesterday and it occurred to me that there are safety interlocks for the trunk and fuel door in relation to the gear you are in (P, N, D, ...). It may be worthwhile giving it some thought. Iknow the other day I was in a garage and got my car in neutral so they could position it for the hoist. I had to open the trunk door and it would not open. The mechanic asked me to put it in Park and then try and it opened fine. So the sensor that senses these conditions or the wiring associated with it could potentially bugger things up too.

Hope it triggers some thoughts.

Thank your response is appreciated. I am exhausted trying to figure this out. I did in deed read something to that effect but was too mentally spent to go there. I will give it another try though. If you can find material that would explain or show us exactly what to look for that would be awesome! I just tore the rear passenger door since the window was not going up or down but I heard the motor whirring, the Actuator or is broken, I took the assembly out and took it to the Dealer. Dealer says I have to replace the Whole Assembly, right, not at $800.00 dollars. Any thoughts?

Keep the spirits up and pace yourself my friend. Sometimes I felt frustrated too feeling like a child trying to do too many things at once.

Cheers.

HAHAHAHAH!!! I just did the exact same thing to my 2000 when the gas door wouldnt open at the gas station. Trunk also wouldnt open so I had to crawl through the back seat. I just slid the actuator back with my hand on the gas door and removed the electrical plug so it wouldnt lock again. I also tied a ghetto ass rope to the trunk release. ha! Damn car is fallin apart.

Start the car put it in reverse, then push the fuel door switch it should open
