Hey Guys!

So I took my 2007 ESV (70,000 miles) in last week for a rattle/wobble type sound coming from the left front. Dealer replaced the intermediate shaft and said it was fixed. I left the dealer and heard the noise again. Today it went back to have them look at it. Here is what happens:

Below 40 mph
Deceleration only (if you accelerate it stops)
Lower the speed the louder
Seems louder when braking and turning left
Warmer weather increases the sound
I can feel it through the floor on drivers side

The sound is like a low wobble sound like a loose shock or strut. I would swear I hear a very low grinding noise sometimes as well. I took the advisor for a ride in and she heard it before leaving the dealers lot. She was saying something about the motor mount. Doesn't seem to fit the normal diagnosis for a mount as it makes no noise when accelerating.

Anything I should be on the look out for?? I'm not really trusting the dealer after the last visit because of other issues.

Thanks!!! Rob

Hey Rob,
I drive an 07 escalade and I'm dealing with the same exact problems. I have about 80,000 miles on it. Tech said that my hub assembly needs to be replaced. My extended warranty will cover this but I've been waiting two weeks for parts to come in. I was also told my front and rear shocks need to be replaced. Warranty will not cover. I'll keep you posted once repaired.

Dr. J-

Thanks for the info!! As I was reading your reply my dealer to tell me they are not able to duplicate at this time (of course) but are keeping it inside to warm it up. I told them what you said about yours and they are going to check into it.

I will update when I hear back and look forward to your update as well!! Did they give yours back or are you still in a rental?

THANKS!!

Exact same thing happening right now with my 07. Front left, wobble, grinding, ect. I have 60k miles on it. Dealer replaced sway bar linkage and said it was fixed. I drove about 10 feet and heard it again before leaving the lot. Now they are going to replace the strut.....a week later and I am still waiting for them to get the part!

Thanks! I have always replaced them in sets in the past. The right one is leaking fluid so they are going to check that one. I'm hoping this repairs it as this is the second trip in for the samething and both times I have told them is sounded like a failed shock. I will post an update later tonight. They are supposed to bring me the car later today when they are finished with it.

I just picked up an '08 ESV with pretty high mileage (95k) with this same exact noise. I couldn't have described it better myself. I'll need to get it in the shop this week and point them in the shock direction. I have a few things that need to be done before I hit the 100k mark.

Unless you have a Platinum or one o the later trucks with MRC, you only have leveling shocks in the rear. It is NOT an "air suspension".

Sorry guys I posted an update Friday night to this but it isn't there!

So I picked it up Friday night and they replaced both front shocks. The thing drives like a brand new one! No more noise or tapping on the floor! All covered under the certified warranty. Needless to say I am very happy to have it bad and all fixed. Not sure about cost as it was warranty but I would have expected to pay about $1000 for it given the cost of the shocks. Not sure about how long it takes as the dealer took four days to do it!! It took them four hours to get the parts. I can't imagine it took the tech more then 1.5 hours at the most to make the repair. My only disappointments are that A) they didn't listen to me when I took it in the first time three weeks ago and fix it then. :banghead: B) It took way too long to repair and they are not so good with communication. But it is back and correctly repaired and I am happy!! Hope this helps someone!!

Thanks! Rob

I bit the bullet and took my ESV into the shop. I checked the parts department and one shock was around $450 (ouch!) I checked on getting it installed and that was only about $150. I figured it'd be the better part of a day for me to install it. So I decided to let the shop do it. I described the noise and where I thought it was coming from (front left). They thought they same and replaced the shock (or strut). Took it for a test drive and still the same noise. Turns out it's the right front making the noise. Since they only had one shock in stock, I'll be back there tomorrow. They are letting me have the front left for no charge since he says they should have caught the noise as coming from the right. Very bizarre that the noise is transferring that much to the left side, but I noticed when hitting bumps today that the noise is the loudest when the right wheel hits a bump. So glad I didn't take this job on myself. I'll have 2 new shocks for the price of one tomorrow.

Possibily a stupid question, but after a strut has been replaced should they do an alignment? Dealer just replaced the front driver side strut on my 07 and told me they didnt need to align it after they replaced it. I always thought an alignment was necessary after any suspention work. Is this accurate?

Hey Rob,

I got my hubs replaced, I'm still having the same problems. I'm planning to replace shocks next week. I hope to have a success story like you. What replacement shock did you go with? I'm going with the Arnott Bielstien or something like that(front and rear). I'll keep you posted.
