Hi. I have a 2013 CTS 3.6 coupe. I'm replacing the front bumper splash shield and I'm trying to figure out how it is installed. I looked at this thread, but something doesn't seem right.
I'm also borrowing the OP's picture to see if I can explain what I think is going on.

In addition to the four raised areas that are circled, there is a little nub right in the center. It seems to me that this little nub would fit in the small notch in what I think is referred to as the bumper lower cover. (I can't find a good picture of it online.)

Anyway, the only way to get all the parts lined up is to place the very front of the splash shield over the top of the bumper lower cover so the little nub fits in the notch. However, you can only get this arrangement when you "layer" the remaining portion of the splash shield under the bumper lower cover. The question is this correct and if so, what fastener goes in the four circled mounting holes?

If, in fact, that the little nub and the notch mean nothing and the splash shield is supposed to be over the top of the bumper lower cover, I've got the same question as to what retainers should I use? I can't seem to find an online reference showing where the retainers actually go.

Or, I'm I totally missing it and those aren't mounting locations. (Although, I would think you'd need some sort of way to secure the very front of the splash shield.)

Thanks,
Ethan

I will try to help you out. I have a coupe. But it's 109 outside and I am not going to jack my car up and take pictures.
the shield in the picture looks like the correct one.
the shield position in the picture is upside down as to how it is mounted on the car.
Do you have a lower skirt (air deflector) mounted on the bumper cover?
If not you must have one installed to mount the splash shield.
# 15 is the lower cover
# 17 is filler molding left and right.
# 18 is the air deflector

GM parts site at:

they show the retainers but not the part number for them. I think you will have to go to a dealer for the part number.

Hi. Yes, I have all those parts. I hear you about it being too hot outside. I'll try to take a picture of my installation at some point and/or go to the dealership.
Thanks.

So with those filler molding left and right in place, the new splash shield will slide on above the filler molding held in place by the plastic two-piece clips. These clips can be purchased at most auto part stores but you will need a sample of the OEM clip.
there are different plastic clips towards the rear of the car and if I remember there two metal hex head screws that also hold the splash shield in place. Then behind that splash shield, that you have in the first post there is another windage tray that goes under the engine all the way to the transmission. Item number 7 in the schematic. disregard it is for RWD, item 8 is for AWD .

Just to update, in case someone ever does a search for this issue, I figured it out. Turns out, the little notch means nothing and the front bumper splash shield does go on top of the bumper lower cover. The splash shield is held in by little two piece push in clips and two bolts. The bolts go in the frame on the diagonal pieces toward the front. The bolts are held in with little rectangular push in nuts that go into the rectangular holes in the frame. (They are the same bolt/nut for the engine splash shield just to the rear of the front bumper splash shield.)

Thanks everyone for the assistance.
