When replacing the timing chain in a 2009 CTS 3.6 vin 7, I found a tiny steel ball and it's seat lying under the left secondary tensioner body.
The left side VVT sprockets seemed very noisy when running, so I am replacing them. I also noticed there is very little oil, if any, coming out of the back of the left sprockets, while the right side oiled profusely while cranking the engine over. The actuator solenoids all looked clean and normal. I swapped the solenoids from left to right with no difference in the oiling. Any idea where this came from or if it is the cause of the lack of oiling?

This is not a Tech Tip - it's an engine repair question. Thread moved to CTS forums.

I hope you're replacing all four VVT sprockets. Looks like a check ball and seat, probably use to keep oil in the tensioners with the engine off. Just a guess on my part. You're replacing all those as well, right? Sprockets, guides . . .
