I thought it would be good to save some favorites.
Following the instructions here I did a Nav one for the house - Works
Did a phone Home one - Works
Did a POI search for Starbucks - Doesn't work

It will remember to search for Starbucks, but only from the location I was at when I entered it.
Hit the favorite button and it will show you the Starbuck's...... starting with the closest to your original location (see picture)

Any suggestions or is this another programming / software glitch...

It would seem to require you to select one of the Starbucks locations and then select GO to record that as the actual destination. Until you select GO it is only one of many to choose from. Better yet do as Codeman described and actually go to the Starbucks that you want to make a favorite, then make sure that you end route guidance and then select the present spot as your favorite. That way you will get the true location and not the estimated location of the agency that GM uses for its data base. Then go to settings and rename that spot to the name of STARBUCKS, hit exit with the green check and you now have the exact location of your favorite Starbucks!

I think Mike Grasso is trying to accomplish something entirely different that this though. He wants a favorite button to search for Starbucks wherever he may be. So if he drives 500 miles away and is in a random city, he wants to be able to click his favorite button and have the system show him the closest Starbucks.

Hmm...you're doing it exactly right and it should always update to be nearby locations, rather than showing you ones from where you were before.

Here's another way to save Starbucks as a Favorite. I know it's clunky, and I'm working on improving it for the future, but it works reliably and is what I would actually show journalists when demonstrating CUE. To save a particular POI chain:

1. From Nav, select the Destination button
2. Select POIs
3. Select Food & Nightlife (or whatever category the POI chain is in you'd like to save)
4. Select Coffee Shops
5. From here, it should show you the nearby coffee shops. If you were to press and hold a Favorite, it would save that individual location. If you want to save the chain, press the Sort button until the list is sorted alphabetically.
6. Once it's sorted alphabetically, you'll see that the system groups chains into single entries. Press the Up arrow in the lower right to display the buttons along the bottom.
7. Drag up on the buttons along the bottom to reveal the Favorites.
8. Press and hold on a Favorite slot to tell the system where you'd like to save.
9. It will then ask you to select what you'd like to save. Scroll down to the bottom of the list (it will stop after 20 entries and then you have to press the Show Next Results button)
10. Once you see Starbucks, tap on it and then you've saved the actual Starbucks chain to that favorite. Whenever you save a group of POIs like that, it will save that group (not just those individual locations) to that Favorite.

You can also save a POI category using the same method, but you just stop one step earlier. So, if you wanted to save all Coffee Shops to a Favorite, you would stop at step 4 and in stead of selecting Coffee Shops, you'd pull up the Favorites, push and hold, and then select Coffee Shops. It'll then save Coffee Shops to the favorite.

Again, I'm working on improving that flow for the future, but you can use this right now, and it works well in my experience.

But, I'll check more into what you did and see if I can reproduce it to try to get it fixed.

I went to a Best Buy using voice NAV and POI commands. Then when the screen menu of all of the BBs in my area I just selected the one that was the nearest. It took less than one minute to get the list from CUE and would seem to be so easy that a favorite button would not be that helpful since all it would do is get the list without the three verbal commands, "Navigation, POI and BB". I think as more of us explore the voice commands the more we are likely to use them. I do like the favorite functions myself and use them for things that me and the "Lady" in CUE do not communicate very well to each other.

Codeman & Rudy

I will try them both! Standby........................................

OK, back again. That procedure from Codeman1 worked, it seems to have it including Icons. We'll check it out later on the rode.

Can this be accomplished with voice recognition?
Yes, finding Starbucks by speech is definitely possible, and is far less setup than the favorite. I guess one reason you might want the favorite is in a situation where you might not be able to use speech (kids in the back making noise, or sleeping, or some other reason), or just a personal preference preferring to not use speech.

Not directly, no, but you typically can save what happens after a speech session to a Favorite. For example, after entering in a destination by speech, you could press and hold on a favorite to then save that to a Favorite. After placing a phone call, you could save that number to a favorite, or after tuning to a radio station you could save it. So the hard part of getting the information pulled up you could do by speech and then save the search results to a Favorite. That should have worked for the Starbucks example too, but obviously something was still going wrong there where the location didn't update.

I might have an issue with my system. I have found several times that the touch screen simply does not respond for a minute or so in the middle of entering data. And then the total freeze I had on Sunday. Codeman is this something that you have encountered before and if so how do I get rid of it?

Codeman,

I recently put a great "protective cover" on my iPad, it's made by a company that's local (Burbank) It's called Anti-Glare Screen by Power Support. They make them for Apple, quality is very good.

I was thinking of buying another piece, cutting it down and putting on the CUE, the stuff is amazing and doesn't show fingerprints. Will it work with our type of screens? Where are the "proximity" sensors? Will they be a problem?

That's a tricky one to try to diagnose remotely...it could be that the system is being overloaded with processing data. It could potentially be indexing a media device in the background, processing traffic/weather data, navigation route calculation which may cause slight delays in the responsiveness of the system. Do you know if you see this right after startup, or if it's after the system has been on for a while? Right at startup, it's like a computer where a lot of processes need to be started in the background and sometimes you can run into these delays, but the system should speed up shortly after startup after these boot processes have completed. It might be good to see if it continues after the next software update. If it doesn't seem to be connected to any of the things I've mentioned and still persists, maybe there is some hardware issue in your vehicle.

More than likely, it will work fine on the display since it uses the same capacitive touch sensing technology that an iPad uses, but I don't think we've designed it or tested it with one on there, so I'd verify that it could be removed if it ends up interfering. I would assume it would work like other covers where you could remove it fairly easily. The proximity sensors are below the chrome strip below the display. In the picture at the beginning of the thread, you can see the two "windows" below the display where the sensors are.

It's done and works great. I had a bit of a struggle size wise since the CUE lower edge actually rounds up and out.
I will pick up another piece and perfect it.
But, as of now, it works great!

Exactly, remember you heard it here! The anti-glare is a real nice feature.
