I'm still holding to my other arguements :p- that it's not necessary to divide DeVilles and Fleetwoods and that there's really no reason to have classic or pre-1981 section (I like your idea from last week about that). Having both these splits would just cause more confusion, and make it that some questions might not get as many good answers or might get repeated because of what forums people would be hanging out in.

These pictures show why I think it's better to have a RWD section only- one of these cars is a 1978, one is a 1980/81 and one is a 1990-1992. There's also an engine shot of a 1980 and one of a 1992. Im not going to bother spending the time to go back further then that...

From a purely practical point of view, I think it's better to divide the Forums more as Sal is doing. Why? Because the Board is still *relatively* small and, while not exactly fun, it is possible to go through a Forum and divide it up. If, in the future, we feel the need to consolidate some Forums, that's easy to do. If we go the other way, with less Forums now, it would be a much more daunting task to separate each Forum Thread by Thread after we double, triple, quadruple, etc., in size.

There will always be a tradeoff between better "organization" (more Forums/Subforums) and less "clutter" (fewer Forums/SubForums). I think Sal's proposal is the best of both worlds.

BTW, I wouldn't mind seeing a Transmission Tech Forum or Subforum. And how about adding Steering and Brakes to the Suspension Tech?

I understand that, but the difference between DeVilles and Fleetwoods is so minor that if you have a DeVille you could get seats from a wrecker from a fleetwood and you're more then halfway there! Even Cadillac kept them together in the service manuals. It wouldn't matter how big the site got cause you'd never have to split them up anyway- almost all the questions about both would be so similar that no-one would probably even realize who owned what unless they said it somewhere or started asking questions about the differences. If you look at a 1988 Sedan DeVille and 1988 Fleetwood the seats and door panels are different, the Fleetwood has real wood on the dash, a 1/2 vinyl roof, and some different trim on the rocker panels and door bottoms. That's about it.

Oh yeah, another thought. We could put "Forums" on the secondary pages which are links back to other Forums. So on the "General" Page you could have:

Lounge
Introductions
Non-Model Specific Cadillac
Appearance and Detailing
Classifieds
News/Feedback/Suggestions
Technical Discussion (Link)
Model Specific Discussion (Link)

I think this might make navigating around a little easier. The other secondary pages would likewise have "Forums" which link to the other Sections like this for 1982 and newer FWD:

Eldorado and Seville
Coupe DeVille and Sedan DeVille
Fleetwood FWD
Allante
Cimarron
Other Model Specific Discussion (Link to Model Specific Discussion Page)
Technical Discussion (Link)
General Discussion (Link)

And the Tech Section Page would look like this:

Northstar Engine-Specific Performance
Pushrod Engine-Specific Performance
Transmission Specific
Electrical Specific
Suspension/Steering/Brakes Specific
Infotainment Specific
Model Specific Discussion (Link)
General Discussion (Link)

Why are you so against the '81 and older? Just let us try it out.

hmm... Personally, I feel the only change that should be made from how it is now is to have a FWD Deville and Fleetwood and RWD Deville and Fleetwood.

But when you guys do the change, I'll fully support you.

From the first draft, a problem I see is that the 81 and older FWD will have very littly activity, with only a '80-81 Seville and 67-81 Eldorado fitting the category. I think pre-82 should be all in one category.

I keep saying why- because having the cutoff there makes no sense! I like the older Cadillacs best too, that's why I have a 1991. Because it's the last of the old style. Why are you so dead set on having 1981 and older? Why not 1976 and older or why not 1992 and older? I think it's because you really don't know anything about the newer ones and havent spent much time bothering with them. Forget the 4.1L thing ever happened. All the RWDs upto 1992 are pretty much all the same except for minor changes now and then. Just about everything about them is the same as it's been all along. Look at the pictures I attached to my other post then go do a search somewhere for various cars from the 70s upto 1992. Look at the back of a 70s Eldorado then look at the back of an 80s Brougham and notice the resmblence.

Having a seperate RWD forum would separate all the major differences such as the 1985 and up FWDs, that's why I'm so interested in that split.

in my state more cars end up in the salvage yards due to emmissions issues than accidents.

malfunctions that no one knows how to fix or deem it too expensive to bother.

the split of that is 1974 ....
1973 and older vehicles are excempt form emmissions tests ...

how will this challenge be considered in the tech areas? or not ...

I dont think we need a bunch of forums for the future models section...... Just one......

I think clumping the 81 and older in one section will be fine......

Maybe we could rename the suspension forum to wheels/tires/brakes/suspension......

Well, there's certainly not too many Threads in that section to fit in one Forum. OTOH, I think the Future models like 2005 STS should each have their own Forum just so that when they become a current model we can simply move the entire Forum over to the proper Vehicle Discussion Section rather than have to got through one big forum and separate them out one by one manually. The concepts and rumors can be grouped together in one Forum as far as I'm concerned.

How about rear wheel drive up to 1996? They were still essentially the same frame anyways, and that's pre-Catera era... I think that would eliminate any RWD confusion, and I *think* that may make brougham happy. Besides, the Fleetwood really has NOTHING in common with the Catera and CTS, etc.

And, uh, how exactly is this consolidating???

Oh, and as far as classic is concerned, how about anything 25 years old or older? I think that's how most states make the split...

Sandman...... I think you still need to combine the RWD and FWD pre 81...... There were only a few models that were FWD prior to 81, and I think only a few members, if any, have these models...... not to say there arent any, but I still think this is how it should be done.......

What if PRE-81 areas are SubForums of the main areas..

Seville/Eldorado (on main page)
-- Seville/Eldorado Pre 1982 (not on main page - but found once in the Seville/Eldorado area - seperated from the newer discussions)...
