Gecko was actually an M & A player(well actually he was fictional, but still damn cool), this looks more like basic daytrading, which is not much better than shooting dice.

Day trading and the stock market in general is basically legalized gambling. You'd be better off opening an account at one of your local "brokerage houses" and investing on the Yankees. I also believe football "trading season" has begun. These types of investments are also tax defered, if you know what I mean.
