Me neither. I like MSN Autos and Consumer Reports. Even though CR is biased towards Japanese cars, their reviews are very frank and sometimes brutally honest, which is good. I like reading about how awesome a car is, but I also want to know its weak points (i.e. the CTS's overload of black plastic in the center console)I dont like Motor Trend because the writing is dumbed down for grade school dropouts. Anyway, they recently compared the Fusion, Accord, Sonata, and Camry. Results:
1. Accord
2. Fusion
3. Sonata
4. Camry
The new Accord is tolerable to look at now with new rear tail lamps.
It was totally true as recently as last year. However, the new editor, Angus MacKenzie, is an Australian guy who used to run the British magazine CAR, and he's brought the quality of Motor Trend way up. Especially in the international outlook.Jesda said:I dont like Motor Trend because the writing is dumbed down for grade school dropouts.
True Jesda, but the drive isn't the only thing that makes a GREAT car. I agree, its a important part of a car, but there are other things too - like the interior, the reliability, performance, and especially gas mileage. Besides, most car buyers aren't too concerned with performance. They just want something thats affordable and reliable and thats why the Camry is number one in the country. You like CR for some of the reasons I hate them. They focus on things I dont care about: cupholders and crap. At least C&D, R&T, Motor Trend, and Automobile put an emphasis on driving dynamics and total satisfaction behind the wheel.
CR's idea of performance is "Well how easy is it to fold down the third row? Aren't those cupholders a bit shallow?"
And when you take the drive into consideration, the Camry would rank 30th on a list of 4 cars.
You're right about that. They do a good job of looking at the closer details of vehicle useability, which explains their popularity among the general public, as well as the popularity of cars like the Camry.ben72227 said:True Jesda, but the drive isn't the only thing that makes a GREAT car. Besides, CR looks at the WHOLE car, which includes everything from nitpicking about cup holders to child safety to reliabilty...And for the most part, they're pretty accurate. And while they do seem biased towards Japan sometimes, well, we all know Honda makes the most reliable cars...So maybe they aren't biased, but we are?...
Stoneage is absolutely correct, the 5 and 6 spd a/t used for the last 10+ years in BMW's are GM transmissions! I've often wondered myself why GM felt we didn't need them in domestics. They obviously woke up since the new STS, Vette and truck/SUV models are being built with 6 speed auto's.ben72227 said:Right...which explains why GM is still using 4 speeds???
If GM really did build all of these parts, why not use them in their own cars???
I suppose GM thinks the American public is dumb and stupid. Of course we want 4-speed slushboxes and OHV engines in our PontiacsStoneage is absolutely correct, the 5 and 6 spd a/t used for the last 10+ years in BMW's are GM transmissions!
