yea i see what you mean...my freinds make fun of my cadillac cts by calling it a Ford Fusion :crying:
Don't hate, you're just mad because its an STS with a six speed auto that costs less than $25k:histeric:I don't think Cadillac even HAS six speeds yet, and look at Ford...:nono:Shame on GM, Shame!

I think they look great for Fords, but I'd rather just get the original model that Ford ripped off - the Mazda6:bouncy:
I dont like Motor Trend because the writing is dumbed down for grade school dropouts. Anyway, they recently compared the Fusion, Accord, Sonata, and Camry. Results:

1. Accord
2. Fusion
3. Sonata
4. Camry

The new Accord is tolerable to look at now with new rear tail lamps.

Me neither. I like MSN Autos and Consumer Reports. Even though CR is biased towards Japanese cars, their reviews are very frank and sometimes brutally honest, which is good. I like reading about how awesome a car is, but I also want to know its weak points (i.e. the CTS's overload of black plastic in the center console)

And, while the Hyundai is good, I don't think its gotten to the point where its better than the Camry, Hell, that whole list looks WAY off...

It's really:

Camry - Its the number one car in America for a damn good reason...
Accord - It costs WAY too much for a Honda. Hell, I could an Acura for cheaper than what they're selling these things for...
Sonata - Hyundai is only going to get better, and the Sonata is their #1 car, so I'm sure its bound to be good. A ten year warranty doesn't hurt either...:lildevil:
Fusion - It looks good, the six speed auto is great, but lets face it - It's STILL a ford, and its really just a "fusion" of one Great car (the Mazda6) and dumbed down Ford engineering for American retards who can't appreciate European/Japanese/Upscale styling:( and are (unfortunately) content with BLANDness like the Ford 500 and the Chevy Impala (its amazing how the Impala went from bad to worse when they took out the Corvette taillights...what a shame GM, what a SHAME!)

It was totally true as recently as last year. However, the new editor, Angus MacKenzie, is an Australian guy who used to run the British magazine CAR, and he's brought the quality of Motor Trend way up. Especially in the international outlook.
hey ben , half of that six speed belongs to GM , joint vetnure , ford made out like a bandit , GM did all the work .....

GMs made 6 speed autos for years , there in BMWs
Right...which explains why GM is still using 4 speeds???:p

If GM really did build all of these parts, why not use them in their own cars???
uh...cause that would be smart and this is GM we're talking about....
You like CR for some of the reasons I hate them. They focus on things I dont care about: cupholders and crap. At least C&D, R&T, Motor Trend, and Automobile put an emphasis on driving dynamics and total satisfaction behind the wheel.

CR's idea of performance is "Well how easy is it to fold down the third row? Aren't those cupholders a bit shallow?"

And when you take the drive into consideration, the Camry would rank 30th on a list of 4 cars.

True Jesda, but the drive isn't the only thing that makes a GREAT car. I agree, its a important part of a car, but there are other things too - like the interior, the reliability, performance, and especially gas mileage. Besides, most car buyers aren't too concerned with performance. They just want something thats affordable and reliable and thats why the Camry is number one in the country.

Besides, CR looks at the WHOLE car, which includes everything from nitpicking about cup holders to child safety to reliabilty...And for the most part, they're pretty accurate. And while they do seem biased towards Japan sometimes, well, we all know Honda makes the most reliable cars...So maybe they aren't biased, but we are?...
good thing I searched before I posted a new topic, this car is such a rip off of the STS. LAME!

You're right about that. They do a good job of looking at the closer details of vehicle useability, which explains their popularity among the general public, as well as the popularity of cars like the Camry.

Me? I'm a nutty enthusiast. I'll tape on a cupholder and accept a few quality quirks if it means I get a better feel for the road. My view is inherently illogical and impractical, but so much better for the soul! :)

Stoneage is absolutely correct, the 5 and 6 spd a/t used for the last 10+ years in BMW's are GM transmissions! I've often wondered myself why GM felt we didn't need them in domestics. They obviously woke up since the new STS, Vette and truck/SUV models are being built with 6 speed auto's.:)
Ford expected to sell 2700, but ended up selling well over 4000 for the month of October. Apparently there's a lot of good buzz, and they say it might steal thunder from the Mustang as Ford's hottest product.

I suppose GM thinks the American public is dumb and stupid. Of course we want 4-speed slushboxes and OHV engines in our Pontiacs:p Only smart people would want OHC's and 5/6 speeds, and since we cater mainly to people who have the mindset of "That thing gotta HEMI?!"....Okay, I'll stop now:p

But really, GM and DCX (i.e. Dodge) seem to really dumb down things for the american car buyer, while the "smart" ones flock to Honda and Toyota. Hopefully they've learned their lesson. I'd still really like to see one of those new G6s up close and personal to see what they're like...
You know, I keep hearing this thing about GM making the automatic transmissions for BMW and Ive always just gone along with it, but theres got to be more to it than that simplistic angle. Im imagining its more along the lines of GM assisted in the development of the transmissions or allows their german Opel operation to produce them on a large scale etc. The Content label on most BMWs clearly shows both engine and transmission components coming from Germany.

And since when do Ford and GM team up on something as essential as a transmission? Id like to hear more about that as well, sounds interesting.
