So I was on my way home from my girlfriend's house (as usual), and I met a Focus at the light. He had a backwards hat, was blasting rap, and gave me an "I'm a badass" look. I laughed, and waited for the light to go. I started at half throttle, because it didn't seem like he was racing through the intersection, but then he started to get in my blind spot, so I floored it.

Got to 55 from a stop pretty quick, and let off because it was a 40 zone. He did a ricer fly-by, and tried to cut me off, and almost lost control of the car, he understeered...

I gave up on him after that, because it was scary being around a moron who couldn't competently change lanes going 50. He never slowed down, and almost ran into some guy at a light a little later...

I love having more torque than a car that's "sporty"

Forgot to mention...this is even with my car running really rough. Think an injector's gone for good.

I remember racing my friends focus in my 1993 4.9 eldorado. i think his was a two door with a five speed might have been and svt not sure. anyways at a stop sign he looks over and revs it so I thought what the hell. He does a brutal clutch drop and squeals away while I just squeze the gas down gently and keep pace with him to about 50. he got a chirp on the 1-2 shift and still couldn't pull on me. It was pretty funny looking at his face trying to figure out why he couldn't get ahead of me. he probably would of passed me if we ran a whole 1/4 mile but it was still good. Those 4.9's could beat just about anyhing to 50 if you didn't spin the tires from the torque.

Any idea what engine it was?

Probably a measly 2.0 or something, my VW could toast that :p

What size engines do the US Focuses (Focusai?) have?

We get 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 1.9TDCi, 2.0, 2.0TDCi and possible another.

I may be wrong on this

The US Focii(?) have 2.0L Engines.
The 2.0L Zetec as we know it (well, some small differences, theirs is non-interference, whereas ours will smack a valve if you break the cambelt) and also a cheaper 2.0L varient with less power. Single point injection or something like that I think.

I used to have one, in fact a friend of mine imports performance parts for them. Got mine up to 167BHP, not bad for an 1800. They stand no chance against a Caddy though as even the ST170 takes 15.5-15.7s to run the quarter and mine never bettered 16.0.

An RS would have my STS off the line, but from a roll I dunno, very close.

If the STS can indeed run a 14.8 on the quarter then it just about has the legs on the Seat Leon Cupra R which takes 14.9-15.0, but an RS Focus does it in about 14.5-14.7.

Depends on the driver though, a friend of mine raced a Civic TypeR off the lights in his STS up to about 100mph and managed to pull a car length or two on it.

Pity the STS is fwd otherwise it would be a lot quicker off the mark.
