How's it going. I'm new member and I read your post about putting concours skirts on your deville. I also have a 94 deville and I'm putting skirts on mine also but I was wondering what parts do I need to make them latch on to the front bracket? If you have any part #'s that would help alot. If you put yours on already can you post a pic. Thanks

Stoneage-

A question if I may ask regarding the fender skirt fitment on your 94. I see you are having trouble sourcing the brackets, but my question is how you plan to fill the gap in the chrome belt molding on the rear quarters.

You'll note that the Sedan Deville has the lower edge of the chrome trim pieces in the wheel well "notched" about an inch higher than the rest of the trim piece. The Concours trim was the same width all the way across (different piece), and the fender skirt "tucked" in behind the trim molding. Thus, if installing skirts on a non-Concours, there will be a visible gap where the topmost part of the skirt would normally be concealed behind the trim molding.

So, did you have a plan for this? I was wondering because I had considered putting the skirts on mine a while back but never did on account of this one issue. Seems like it would be expensive to have something custom fabricated to fill the gap and make it look decent.

Your thoughts?

yes its all in the plan , ive found a source for "donor chrome" namely the 2 peices that sit on the rear doors , i will cut them up to make chrome inserts for the skirts ....if you note the skirts also are indented right there so ill need to fab a way to get that area to go flush with the stock trim on the car ...

as for the brackets , after searching junkyards all over tampa ive decided im just going to have to fab that also ...

I am cutting some chrome rockers to fill in the gaps between the skirt and the quarter molding that I will attach to the skirt. If I can't find any brackets then I will fabricate those also.

Ok,

I was wondering what your plan was. Seems like this might be difficult to get a decent looking filler piece mated up there though. There will obviously be some kind of seam, much like the goofy (IMHO) looking fender skirt seam on the 89-93 Fleetwood/60 Specials where they meet up with the rear quarter.

Maybe it won't be quite so obvious in this case since it is going to be a straight line more or less. It might almost be less work to just get all the trim from a concours parts car and do it that way. Then again, I think the base deville trim looks better since it is all chrome, I don't like the painted trim on the concours nearly as much.

I'll be looking forward to seeing the pics of this, as it may dictate whether or not I decide to do this mod myself.

BTW Stoney, having seen you modded yours with the lighted C pillar crests, I thought I would point out that I put a lighted crest in my grille along with a Cadillac script from a 1990 grille, looks good but mounting it was a job. I had to get my sheetmetal guy to supply me some aluminum that I fabricated into special brackets that retain the crest/wreath/script from the rear of the grille. I will try to get some pics up here sometime.

Also I have to say, I'm surprised you took the hole saw to your sail panels [though the results are good!], I had thought about doing this but didn't have the stomach to cut into my baby like that, especially since those lighted crests will burn out eventually and won't be available for replacement as they are already in short supply.

LOL , belive me i measured half a dozen times before i took the dremel to notch a small hole where i wanted it. Then i ensured the holesaw bit was perfectly sharp. What would take someone 10 minutes to do took me all day..but i wanted perfection....

For sure its one thing i DONT recomend any 94+ deville owner do it, with the structure inside of the panel there isnt a factory style way to hold the crest to the car. in fact , mine is attached with a form of glorifed glue. It looks great and is held tight. But it will be hard to remove if i ever need to. Ive put ALOT of faith in the LED setup i grafted inside the crest (i gutted the stock crests and ran 194 series LED bulbs)

as for the chrome , im with you , itll look kinda awkward , so im going to try to make the tolerances very tight so the gap wont be so ovious. But trust me , if it doesnt look right it wont be on the car.

in the grand scheme of things all the fuss ive put into what is really a 2500 dollar car is stupid , but its the first time in years ive had a blank canvas and all the experence behind me to do some interesting things ....the payoff happens like it did today , when the manager of the cadillac dealership i work for saw my car , and couldnt belive it had 145k on the odo and was a 94 ....or when dad brings people to the house to look at the crest lights ....dads never really been impressed with work i had done over the years , but this is one of the few jobs that he brags about ...to me its kinda funny , there just crest lights , i dont get what the fuss is about ...

Hiya Stoney!

I am not the one selling them, just found them on one of my daily tours on e-bay for Caddy parts...thought I'd let you know.

I DO have a parts car, 94 Concours, Lt Beige...I took a peek under the back wheels, and what looks like a large plastic splash shield has the indent for the back end of the skirt, which just slides in, and then up front is some kind of apparatus that the hinged metal rod on the skirt catches. I also have the molding over both wheels, and it's all in pretty good shape. I think tha's all you need, yes? Those are the parts I'm selling, the hardware molding and mounting stuff, but not on e-bay.
