Hello Everyone, just got a 1984 eldorado and the dash does not light up. So i cant read the mileage, how much gas it had etc. I don’t know what to do to fix this, I’m sure this is the dash cluster but unsure how to fix it. If anyone also has any tip to stop the sun visor from sagging as well i would appreciate it!

Also the i have the driver seat not moving when using the switches to bring it forward and back etc, is this something i can fix? Or do i have to have someone to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

SO -
YOU - a brand new member with no background information -
are asking US - if YOU can fix something?

the only possible answer would be MAYBE -

if you have all the TOOLS - test light - meters - you might need -
a copy of the FSM - Factory Service Manual -
and knowledge of electrical systems and wiring harnesses -

the entire problem might be as simple as a single bad/broken ground wire -
OR - you are dealing with a 39 YEAR OLD car with LOTS of issues -

fill in the blanks

Search the archives for info on the visors, they are not repairable but other members have found replacements from other cars. Also in the past month or so a member went through the no dash light problem on the same era car and it ended up being the bulbs were burned out but start by checking ALL fuses with a test light. The key and the lights should be on to test the fuses

Welcome to the forum, SareenAbu. For seat controls, first thing you should try: unscrew the one screw in the arm rest control panel with the switches. Pull it out, but don't force it and break something. Then separate the wiring harnesses (again, don't force or break things) and clean all the electrical contacts with Electrical Contact Cleaner or alcohol and Q Tips. Then reassemble and test. If it starts working, put it all back together (carefully) and screw the screw back in.
For the lights, start by checking the dial and fuses, as recommended above.

Sareen,
I ended-up buying some parts to fix the visors based on the idea I shared in post #52 of this thread:

I put one together. I have one more to try. Considering it's "just a visor" the parts were so expensive I assumed most people wouldn't be interested in the repair unless I can ultimately get the cost of the custom parts down. I think the parts I have now will work, the first one seems to, but I may want to make some adjustments for tolerance. The last part I have to try, and the one I tired, belong to another member on this site. My own visors aren't bad yet.

To clarify I need to reuse the chrome piece which screws to the roof. I replace the shaft with a new shaft and a two different design bushings. It requires pressing parts together and everything is custom made. I do have more of the custom parts but I lack chrome pieces to repair. Once the shaft is repaired you would insert the newly rebuilt shaft into your original visor.

I wish we could find some extra donor chrome pieces which are the same because the risk of my repair is it's not well tested yet and once the parts are pressured together it would be easy to reverse the surgery due to the press fit.

Thanks Scott, good to know, my visor kept going down while driving so i had to take it out, but this is good to note. Thanks!! I love the car so I’m planning on doing my best fixing it up, regardless of how long it takes!!
