File taxes question (IRS) issue

A few years ago i got a retirement check from a job a worked. at the end of the year i filed taxes like I always do. ( i dont think i remembered to file the retirement check) because, this year the irs sends a letter saying i own over 1500 dollars. because i didnt file it. (I didnt do it on purpose) I forgot. I can not locate the check stub from the retirement check anyplace at home. does anyone know what I can do in this situation???

Go back to the company that issued the check and have them send you a copy of the stub. They may have withheld taxes from it and you will only have penalties and interest to pay for the filing mistake.
