Without doubt, the two famous Chevy small blocks, 327 and 350. The four bolt main blocks were the strongest of them and the favorites of hot-rodders. The 'fulie' heads were great for stock performance and awesome under the tools of a good machinist. Best bang for the buck for a couple of decades.
Still brilliant condenders in street performance.

Second to them in my opinion would have to be the Ford 5.0 HO especially the 1988. Lots of aftermarket goodies for improvement too.

Heres a good looking engine, but dont hate me, it's in a FORD:nono:

The Yamaha built 3.2 DOHC V6 used in the 92-95 SHO!!
I like the way the intake piping is done!

Two all time favorites are the Ford 302, and the Mopar 426 Hemi. I now have a third, in the Northstar. This engine is smooth and powerful. I look forward to many many more miles from it.

There is something warmly nostalgic about a “Pre-War Willys” with a blown 426 HEMI…… *sigh*
