What do you guys think are the best engines of all time? What are your favorites and why?

I like the:
-Cadillac 4.9 Liter
-Chevy 350 LT1
-Nissan 3.0 and 3.5 V6
-Northstar 4.0 or 4.6
-3800 (what part of GM makes this? Buick?)
-these are what I've driven-

-I haven't driven these, but I like em
-Nissan 5.6L V8
-Cadillac 500 V8
-Cadillac 425 and 472 V8
-Ford 302
-BMW 4.4 Liter V8
-Audi 4.2 Liter V8

reliability? longevity?

best engines ...i mean you ask me that and i need more info ....

Absolute Best engine EVER .....1974 Drake/Offenhouser 158 Inch 4 cyl , 1,000+ hp at 10,000 RPM ....well and Miller/Drake/Offy engine ....there is no beatter engine..... perioid ..that was the last of them , the engine ran 57 years compeditively , started out life as a boat engine ...

Pratt and Whitney j57 is still one of the tops in engines in general ...in my book ...

Detroit 6V71

Small Block chevy , any inch any year ...

3.8 Buick

The cadillac 425/472/500 engines are up there ...

Ford SHOC 427 from the 60s

3.8 Jag

Without doubt, the two famous Chevy small blocks, 327 and 350. The four bolt main blocks were the strongest of them and the favorites of hot-rodders. The 'fulie' heads were great for stock performance and awesome under the tools of a good machinist. Best bang for the buck for a couple of decades.
Still brilliant condenders in street performance.

Second to them in my opinion would have to be the Ford 5.0 HO especially the 1988. Lots of aftermarket goodies for improvement too.

Honda K or J engine, they are both great engines, from the greatest engine company in the world.

Also, the Northstar, that new rotary that mazda has, renesis? i think?, chevy small block, tons more that i can't think of...

Heres a good looking engine, but dont hate me, it's in a FORD:nono:



The Yamaha built 3.2 DOHC V6 used in the 92-95 SHO!!
I like the way the intake piping is done!

Two all time favorites are the Ford 302, and the Mopar 426 Hemi. I now have a third, in the Northstar. This engine is smooth and powerful. I look forward to many many more miles from it.

There is something warmly nostalgic about a “Pre-War Willys” with a blown 426 HEMI…… *sigh*
