Hi guys, hope you can help me with my problem. The belt warning chime on my 83 Fleetwood Brougham was nor working since I own the car, but suddenly it worked one day! Unfortunately the other day it was gone again! Maybe I moved some connector a bit when I was under the dash repairing the radio, but that does not explain why it was gone again just a day after. It should just work every ignition cycle or never LOL. Today I removed the radio bezel and dash cover again to see what can I do with the chime. Finally found the right connector with 2 wires (yellow and black/white) and checked the voltage when the key is being turned. There was only 0,2-0,3 Volts when I turned the key. When not turned, there was 0. Is it even supposed to be 12V? I would try to connect it directly to 12V, can I cause any harm to the chime?

The “Fasten Belt” dash light is working allright and goes off after few seconds. That should be perfectly good, just no chime sound again... For someone it can be pretty annoying to hear the chime, but I liked it a lot.

IDK about that particular model year.
GM did have a habit of plugging the chime into the fuse box on the drivers floor.
Or in that area above the drivers feet.

Normally GM alarms would have 4, 7, or more terminals.
Color of baby blue, orange, or gray.
They control several things like seat belt light with timer, seat belt chime, headlight chime, key in ignition chime, hot engine chime.

The best place to start is if you can locate the seatbelt / warning chime wiring diagram, trouble chart, & maybe component locator for the car. If you don't have already try to find a dealer / factory paper repair manual or at least a PDF copy.

To me it sounds like a defective chime module. Seen them sell for $50, hard to find the exact one, and you really don't know if the new is good unless trying it out.

As I recall an '83 had an electronic tone for key/headlight reminder and the xylophone chime for fasten belts only. The chime is notorious for binding up, but the first thing I would do is check the electrical connection at the drivers belt buckle. The light will illuminate even with the belt fastened, so it doesn't necessarily say anything about the signal to the chime.

What exactly should I look for at the driver’s seat buckle? Is there any electrical connection inside the buckle itself? Can I meassure something with a multimeter? I don’t see under the seat very well, but I see a black connector with two black wires. Is it that?

Not sure what can I check over there, but in my opinion it looks more likely that something is loose or dirty around there (inside the buckle maybe) than a faulty chime. What do you mean? As I have already mentioned it was ringing steadily for like one day, LOL. Then the ringing disappeared again. That is why I am chasing the culprit.

Today I measured voltage at the black seat buckle connector. There is a steady voltage for few seconds (the same delay as the fasten belt dash light). I suppose that is correct, but I have no idea how to check the other end, the belt buckle.
