A comment in a different thread prompted me to ask this.

Of the following exhaust systems, does anyone know if they are "GM approved" or not?

One poster said that the Corsa was GM approved and I was curious if any others were or not.

1) Corsa
2) Magnaflow
3) B&B
4) Bassani
5) Borla
6) Other

The reason I ask is that it might help myself and others who are struggling to make a decision which exhaust system to go with.

Thoughts?

Corsa's site used to call the exhaust a "GM Official Licensed Product". But, I've seen license plate holders, jackets, t-shirts, buttons, belt buckles, etc. also being "GM Official Licensed Products".

So I'm not exactly sure what that statement really means beyond maybe paying GM a fee to call it such? Don't know.

That said, though, it seems Corsa is available through Cadillac dealers -- that is probably a 'positive' just by itself if you're worried about dealer return trips.

Licencing means NOTHING other than a Manufacturer has paid to put a tag on their product. Cooperative branding with a price tag.

Anyways ... take a look at Corsa's website or a GM Performance Parts dealer ... you won't find GM licenced Corsa products any longer. Their program has been terminated.

I was trolling the Borla internet site and found this on their Q&A:

Q. Will it void my factory warranty?

NO. Some cars even have BORLA systems as the OEM exhaust. All of our street exhaust products are 50-state emissions legal. Our headers are 50-state legal and C.A.R.B. approved. In fact, it is illegal for a dealer to deny you the OE warranty because you have changed the exhaust system [emphasis added].

If your vehicle manufacturer fails to honor emission/warranty claims, contact EPA at (202) 260-2080 or www.epa.gov. If federal warranty protection is denied, contact the FTC at (202) 326-3128 or www.ftc.gov. For additional information, check out the following links:

I thought that was interesting. :)
