Hey Folks

Another dumb question.
When you install exhaust manifolds on a 87 Olds 307.......do you use gaskets at the head?......

I was told by a mechanic that it should be metal to metal......no gasket.

That doesnt sound right to me

Any thoughts?

Did installing the exhaust manifold without the gasket work? I have an 88 Brougham that I can't get to stop leaking from the drivers side.

I'm afraid the remanufactured head I put on about 3000 miles ago is not true at the manifold; I have burned through three gaskets. I've tried copper spray, red sealant, you name it. Then again, if a gasket isn't required, then no wonder I've burned through them. I put one on the pass side and it doesn't leak.

I'm hoping it doesn't need the gasket; it'd save me a heck of a lot of work! Please let me know; thanks!
