Exhaust burble volume opinion: muffler SIZE selection time

After talking to some very helpful forum members and reading on the subject, I have concluded that in 1995 the Northstar powered Cadillacs had a significant exhaust sound reduction, due to the addition of a large resonator behind the catalytic converter.

One forum member said his stock exhaust on a 94 was louder at idle than his stock 96 Corvette. When purchasing a 98 the first thing he noticed was that he could not hear the exhaust vs. on his 94.

Because I was a nice muffled burble, vs a throaty exhaust, I have chosen to go with Dynomax SuperTurbos. Another helpful forum member had posted that he was surprised that the sound volume with the muffler swap did not result in a significantly louder exhaust (the stock 20" mufflers with the 14" SuperTurbos).

He said it is loud enough to give it a nice tone, but doesn't quite get that "hot-rod sound."

So I am ready to pull the trigger (I have been thinking about it for a very long time--I'm sure it's an old song-and-dance by now :thepan: ).

Here are my choices:

I was originally considering the 14"x 4 1/4" x 9 3/4" 17730Now I am considering the smaller 14" x 3 1/4" x 7 3/4" 17762

I'm thinking the smaller muffler is lighter weight, so that's also a plus.

Stock mufflers are 20" x 5 x 11.

Thoughts are appreciated.

The 17762 and the 17730 are 2" in/ 2" out. I went with the 17733, which is 2.5" in / 2.5" out, still 14" long on the shell. Much more airflow, more than twice the amount. Sound is still as mentioned.

Bought 2 from Jegs, shipped for $70 about 3 years ago.

My stock pipe is 2." I plan to leave the stock pipe alone and hook up the new mufflers with adapters and clamps.

That price was a bargain. I'm looking $20 more than you.
I see your plan. I had put more money into it to change the pipe from the cat back to 2.5".
