Escalade Brembo brakes

Anyone else have brembo breaks on their Escalade and have issues with them? I have a 2018 Escalade and the first set of breaks went at 27000 miles. If you go to the brembo website it says tested along with Cadillac to 45000. They were replaced (pads and rotors at 30830 miles) I am now at 52000 and they need to be replaced again. I live in the country so it is not like I break alot. I am mostly on back roads and the highway and use the auto cruise control most of the time. Not sure what the issue is but it is $1700. to replace these you would think they would last longer. I have owned several business and owned upwards of 100 plus vehicles and have never had such an issue. What's up with these breaks?

Why the rotors? You should not have to replace the rotors unless the steering wheel shakes when applying the brakes. You can cut the rotors twice in it’s lifetime. I have the stock PowerStop brake components and I don’t see a need for Brembo. The previous gen. had issues with the brakes overheating. I have not experienced that with my 2018 non-Brembo. The OEM pads use to squeak and now I use DuraLast Gold pads which come with free lifetime replacement at AutoZone. Also the spare tire does not fit on the Brembo system. So if you get a flat in the front you will have to move the rear good tire to the front first. I think your overpaying for your brake jobs. I would just order the pads and take it to any mechanic and pay him $100. $1700 for a brake job is allot for a Escalade, maybe a Lamborghini or Maybach would make sense.

Who’s advising that the rotors are in need of replacement? They’re larger and don’t have to work as hard as the OEM set up. If they’re not square they simply need to be turned on a lathe.

I’m guessing, but this sounds like a dealership story that ends unnecessary labor and parts charges.

Is it possible that your cruise control ate your brakes? My 2015 Escalade uses the cruise control to make speed adjustments while moving (sometimes at high speed) by applying the brakes lightly. Maybe the constant brake cycles to not only stop, but control speed was not what high-friction after market brakes were designed for? I have not upgraded the brakes on my Escalade yet because of my fear that my wife would drive my Escalade for hours using the cruise control only, in the mountains, and that would damage high friction brakes, or wear the pads and rotors excessively. I don't know if the cruise control in newer Escalades work the same way.,

That's too much swap the pads yourself or maybe you have a friend who can help? You can buy the pads all the tools needed, a jack, Jack stands and still save a $1000

Take the $1000 you save and buy a dealer level scan tool and never go back to a dealer

Pads are really easy just have to compress the pistons, recommend a tool that goes where the pads do and ratchets

Put the new pads on and drive, if the wheel shakes the rotors should be turned or replaced. Some auto parts stores will turn your rotors for you for 25 bucks or something if that's needed

It's allot easier then you think to change pads. I know there are mobile mechanics that will come and do them, just order the pads and have them ready

If you reference the part #’s and links to the the Brembo / 5JL clone brake set up I purchased below you’ll see that the brake pads and rotors are available from Non Dealership sources.

Since COVID the price has skyrocketed from $85 to $208.00 per 16” Brembo rotor. BuyBrakes.com also has a machine shop that can X drill, slot and Cad plate the rotor. I still may end up doing that before I install them because it’s the only 100% sure way to keep them from collecting brake pad material (warping) which causes the pulsing in the pedal.

Rears on my 09 Platinum are being replaced with PowerStops OEM sized rotors and ceramic pad combo we run on all our vehicles. Buh bye brake pulse and welcome to pad slap brake jobs that do not require the rotors being turned / shaved down during brake jobs.

Bit by bit all the parts have been gathered for the 5JL clone brake upgrade offered for the 2015-2020 GM full size trucks. The total, including tax and shipping was $1,442.74 to the door.

Brembo has a similar kit that's bolt on, with their adapter, uses a slightly smaller disc and uses a 4 pot caliper vs. the 6 pot Vette calipers. That Brembo kit will set you back over $4K. Here's how it all adds up.

$195.00 Caliper carrier / adapter kit.
$170 ($85.00 x 2) 16" OEM each shipped (2) Centric Rotors 120621.80
$994 Shipped New (for both) GM / OEM Brembo 09-13 Corvette ZR1 Front 6 Piston Brake
$66.68 Shipped (for both) POWER STOP Z231405 (Premium) Z23 Evolution Sport; Carbon Fiber-Ceramic w/ Hardware
$17.06 shipped (for both) Caliper Bolt to Hose Dorman 14100

The eBay seller of the calipers may have either lost his selling connection or gotten greedy. They've doubled their price on the ZR1 6 piston calipers. $1,900 from $900 a pair. Their discription still says "Buy from a local GM dealer and you would be dropping around $600 to $700 each. Great Buy!"

There are other eBay sellers selling NEW, individual calipers for as low as $540. BuyBrakes.com seems to have raised their prices too. LOL! Take your time and shop around if you can. I plan on having these power coated yellow and then pc clear to ensure they're wax on, wax off easy to clean and always look like wet paint. Did I mention I hate to paint calipers?

There's a dollar bill at the bottom of the picture to scale the size of the caliper and rotor. It's not a wide angle lens. These are huge brakes. They have titanium pistons vs. the CTS V steel pistons and they're normally outfitted with carbon ceramic discs and pads. This is a Brembo caliper made for GM.

The calipers accept standard composite pads fortunately. Interesting factoid ... this size pad is also the same pad used on ...

Hello, I am in a similar situation 2018 Escalade Platinum, first time changing the front brake pads. I have the Brembo brake system in the front with 6 pistons. I've tried finding just the replacement pads at any and all my local auto parts stores, no luck. Took my truck into the dealer and they tell me I can't just purchase breaks pads individually and that I need to purchase the whole kit at almost $3,000. This does not sound logical. anyone know where I can purchase replacement pads for the Brembo brake system front 6 pistons??? HELP!!!!

Well it is true you cannot buy brake pads individually, they do come as pairs, but there would be no reason all 4 have to be replaced unless they are worn enough that it just makes sense to do them all at once. I test drove a 2018 Platinum with brembo brakes the other day and to be honest, I did not notice any better braking than with our standard ones on a 2015i...Try Rock Auto, they most likely will list several options available for the brembo replacements pads and/or rotors.

Brake pads for those running the Brembo BBK / Police set up can certainly purchase sets of replacement pads individually for the front or rear.

BTW ea Brembo caliper has four pads so a set for the front BBK brembo will give you 8 pads.

The front BBK brembo rotors are the ones listed as 16+” circumference.

Same for the rotors. The shop that’s doing the brake job should verify they’re in spec / wear and turn them on a lathe. That’s about $25 per rotor.

I went to slotted / x drilled rotors that don’t need to be machined as they clean themselves and don’t have the capability to retain the heat that would warp / bake the pad compound on.

If you do need new rotors, here ya go.
