So I was thinking about the one of the 'quirks' that my '99 DeVille has (not being able to get heat out of the dash vents - only the floor) and did some searching around the site. I eventually landed on the following post and I thought to myself 'there should be a thread dedicated to posts like this'. So here's the post that started it all:

Folks, this is a climate control system not a heater and an air conditioning system. Set the display temp to 72, 75 or whatever is comfortable to you and leave it alone except for defrost all year round! The whole point of owning a luxury car is to set it and forget it. Adjusting temp up in the winter and down in the summer simply wears out switches, mode door actuators and blower motors and compressor clutches. If its nice outside and you want to drive around with the windows down, press the econ button. I've owned 4 Cadillacs and I rarely changed the display temp 4 degrees all year long. Let the system work as designed. If its cold the sensor knows and will change the fan speed and vents to warm the interior up then it lower the fan as necc. If its hot, it knows and will raise the fan speed and choose the proper vents to cool the interior. Thats why I was attracted to Cadillacs in the 1st place. Never having to touch the headlight switch, never having to release the parking brake and never having to constantly adjust the interior temperature, thats the meaning of luxury. If you demand bi level heating get a Chevy!
So, there it is. Do you remember any other 'Epic Posts'? Go and search the site for them and come back here and post them. (Please make sure you link back to the comment to preserve continuity.)

'Epic Posts' can be humorous, informative, total fails, etc - I don't think I'm setting the bar very high with this one.

car nut is right you know...other than when you first get into the car of course
i dont know about wearing out the switches but how many times has it been mentioned that part of the luxury experience is get in and drive and not have to worry about messing with switches and controls etc

my gf has gotten used to driving her srx. like most new cars now it has a feature where, you turn the ignition switch and let go, and the car will turn the starter until the engine starts. she hopped in my Allante or the saturn and tried it and of course the engine didnt turn on. its very convenient to the point you forget its even there.

I must be completely dense Chris but I don't see what's wrong with Carnut's post either.
also, doesnt this fall under personal attacks against other members?
Epic is a good thing... I'm holding that post up as the epitome of what makes a good post ... I read it, then had an epiphany that turned into this thread, then re-read it twice again just because it made me feel good to read what carnut wrote.

Was there something I wrote specifically that made you think the opposite was my intention? It was late afterall...

Ahh, ok makes more sense. I think what threw us off was "I'm not setting the bar very high with this one", made me think that it was a hilariously dumb post or something. :p

ah, yeah.... that was one of my later edits... and I had thought about removing that sentence altogether

I really meant it as an encouragement to others that they'll find other Epic posts (even more epic than that one)

What? The new SRX doesn't have an "ignition switch." It has a power on button. :coffee:

I don't know the official way to grab a quote form a different thread, but...

This is from either the Seville / Eldo or Northstar section:

"You can get a little more coolant out if you open the drain valve at the bottom drivers side of the radiator. Then after it has drained, reverse the flow of a shop vac and stick the nozzle in the surge tanks and seal it with your hand. That will blow out some of the residual coolant. If you don't have a shop vac you can just put you mouth over it and give it a blow job. Not quite as effective, but gets the job done."

EPIC
If you want a car with the least amount of problems buy a Lexus, but beware you may fall asleep at the wheel.
taken in context of the thread from which it hails (over 100 posts now) the post quoted above is truly EPIC!

(by the way, you can click the little blue arrow in the quote to go to that post... which is why i suggest doing the quotes this way)

kind of current, but very EPIC - PJ lays down some sage advice
I agree, Tolron. I can't think of a business situation (and this topic of unresolved SRX issues with brand new vehicles is a business situation) where you use a hammer except as a last resort, after you have exhausted all other reasonable avenues available to you.

In every corporate environment I have worked, the folks who had the most success with satisfactory problem resolution, whether that be within the company or outside of the company.....these individuals communicated clearly, communicated to the right people, and they documented their case with names, dates, times, titles, committments, deliverables, and exact expectation content. They were nothing if not persistent.

More important, they were like a machine. When matters went South, they were not afraid to use their resources, seek out advice, escalate issues to key decision makers no matter how high up, and to use whatever leverage they had to. Emotion, frustration, fear? These get in the way and destroy one's credibility. So does a lack of resolve.

In Shana's case I'd bet a case of (fill in the blank with your favorite adult beverage) she would do things a bit differently the second time around, even though she was ultimately successful. All the while she had all of her ducks lined up. She ultimately got exactly what she paid for, what she deserved in the first place: a new replacement vehicle, the difference being that this one works. But it took her a over a year and a score fruitless visits back to her dealership to get there.

Shana taught us a lot about what not to do and what ultimately worked for her. When she put Goliath on notice about her next steps (lemon law action), even then her dealership and the zone rep attempted to stall her off all the way to the door of the courtroom! "You boys just ran out of time." She had a vin# on her replacement SRX in short order.

I am an SRX owner, a proud owner. I have no axe to grind. But a customer, and she was a long-time/many vehicle loyal customer and from a family that also bought the same brand for their personal and business use, should not have to go through what she had to go through. I thank myself every day that my dealer is quite a few cuts above hers. But if placed in her situation, I would not have had $40,000 + and over a years worth of patience.

Not even close to current, but Epic none the less. From Northstar Performance Subforum:

There are no, repeat NO, aftermarket or OEM "goodies" for your car. No pulleys. No headers. No intakes. No cams. No heads. No chips. No worthwhile air filters. No nitrous. No chrome goodies. What you have is what you got.

Spend a couple of 6-packs and some time searching the Seville, Deville, Northstar and Tech Tips. Look at the Tech archives at the top left of the ^^ page. Learn before doing.

........and there is NO room around the engine/transmission to work with pipes or headers. none. A bored TB or mod MAF usually produces a low-midrange throttle stumble from improper fuel/air ratios. The GM engineers did it all for you...........
