I was searching on youtube for some STS movies (not much on tho) but there was this movie still with the pre-facelift STS and they wrote that the new 2008 model with the V6 would have 298 hp.

Is this true?
So much horsepower, damn! I wish the V6 would have had it already. :(

The 2008 Cadillac STS,featuring refreshed signature styling inside and out; a new, standard 298-horsepower (222 kW) V-6 engine

I live in Europe so it isn't normal to have a V8. This V6 is pretty big too, people here drive 2.0 diesels or other small engines. No big guzzlers :p.

I'd take some good ol' German beer anyday. Ever been to the Hofbrauhaus in Munich? WOW, no lighweights there. They pump beer out like Americans do gasoline.

Soupero, it's true. For 2008, the V6 motor is the good old 3.6-liter VVT with gasoline direct injection. This new motor is rated at 304 SAE net hp (226 kw), up from 258 hp (192 kw) previously. Given that the V6 car is some 100 lbs (45 kg) lighter than the Northstar version, and is but 16 hp shy of the Northstar, I can't make a rational case for buying the Northstar. Now, if the Northstar were treated to GDI, its output would be somewhere around 375 hp. That would be a no-brainer as we say here in the power-obsessed USA.

The V8 will still substantially outperform the V6 because it has a much broader torque curve. But the V6 is better than last year.

As hard as this is for me to admit, Binky Bear is right. The Northstar's peak torque is 315 lb-ft and the new V6's is 275 lb-ft (if memory serves). The V8 will launch quicker and will out-accelerate the V6 at lower speeds. Near the top end the two should be near equal. Has anyone seen 0-60 and 1/4-mile times for the '08 V6 STS? How do they compare with the 5.9-6.1 seconds 0-60 and 14.1-14.5 seconds 1/4-mile posted by various magazines for the Northstar?
