the last few days in Calgary, the nights have been freezing temp. and quite cold. The garage is full so the CTS has been outside for the chilly nights. The last few days I've went out to start it, the engine makes this screaming/whistle noise for about 30 seconds then it stops. It's not the sound of a slipping belt, its more of a whistle like its either sucking air or blowing air out of a small hole. I made sure it wasn't just a one day thing, and it's done it every morning for 3 days. So i scheduled to bring it to the dealership last night and they would have it and start it in the morning.

Well, well, they think I'm an idiot and said theres no noise today when they called me. Anybody have a clue what may be wrong? I noticed that at idle it also sputters a bit and it never used to do that either. Remember only about 8k miles on it to date, so its a wonder to me?!

Also another dealership gripe...lol... Since it was so short notice on bringing the car in, I couldn't arrange for my guy at Mercedes to drop me off a car at the Caddy dealership so i'd have a decent loaner (this is what i usually do since GSL will only give me a Cobalt or something b/c i'm not 25 so they wont loan me a Caddillac). So I was just going to deal with the dumb car they gave me this time... Well the guy is booking my car in, taking his sweet ass time, then tells me he's sorry but the car they were going to give me was a Deville, but Im not old enough to drive that, and they have no other cars back and ready yet. I HAD TO WAIT OVER 45 MINS till another car was ready! They piss me off so bad there, their service is horrendous, I don't know what to do anymore! Haha, it's actually funny, because they managed to get me so heated this time that I actually started smoking again last night!

Any advise on the noise or sputtering, or any ideas on how to deal with my Lada---ooops i mean Cadillac dealership serv. dept.?

well, my buddy has a grand prix that is a few years old and he put a CAI on it. on days that it got really cold it would make the same sound that are describing above. only happened when it was really cold though. do you have an intake on it? he never brought it in to get it checked because it started when he put it on and took it off jsut to check and it quick. he just chalked it up to the cai. he didn't want ot take it in because he know the dealer would throw a fit about the cai and not even look at it. we have a pretty sucky gm service dept too!!

No I don't have an intake on my car, but it sounds like thats what it would be comming from (thats the only part of the car I'm aware of that sucks the air in). Hopefully they can figure this crap out, I'm really sick of having to take my car in for stupid shit like this especially when I get the benefit of driving some massively produced fleet vehicle in the meantime! I'm thinking of using threat tacktics in order to get good service out of them. I could open up a webpage and write my experiences on there and send the address to everyone I know in Calgary asking them to forward it along :) I'm sure my dealership would love that!

yeah, no crap. if no cai is the case i would check the intake you have for small leaks. check and make sure that the air sensors and such are still tightly connected and where the pipe connects. those are the only things that i can think of. Im only 23 and i don't get any good cars when i have mine in there either. i think ive driven a piece of crap impala a couple of times and a buick. the buick was actually ok because it was brand new and they didn't have anything else to give me but it was still a buick(not a fan of most of their line)

ive always had a whine coming from my car on a cold morning, but once the car reaches normal operating temp, its gone. Dosnt really bother me. If you can live with it, then do it, because I notice the more and more stuff you take to the dealer to get fixed, the more things seem to go wrong.

I'm not a fan of any GM vehicles except their Cadillacs and their trucks. I also lucked out(i guess thats what you could call it), this time because they made me wait for so long I started swearing at my service person and getting other customers attention so they gave me the very first car that they had ready; a Buick Allure-----> wooo ****ing hooo!

Where you from? I'm standing my grounds with this one, and I'm gonna bitch and bitch till the dealership buys their own couple Cadillac loaner cars for the situations like mine. I hate having to do that, but usually if you annoy someone enough, they will cave in, otherwise they can suffer by listening to my whining non-stop. I wouldn't even care if they didn't have any Cadillac loaners, but they do, I just can't use them, thats what pisses me off. If my car isn't ready by end of working day, I'm going over there and they'd better give me a cadillac whether its mine or not, I'm sick of this BS.

This is not just a whine, this is a full out scream that would wake people up! It sounds like a slipping alternator belt, but you can hear that its an airy noise not a friction noise. I can't live with that, especially if I want to sleep in and my g/f takes the car that day...

i do go to betts. the service is great. they also have the best body shop in town(from des moines also). i was just complaining about how i get crap for loaners. not a big deal would just be nice. I was talking about the gm dealer where my friend is from that has crappy service. when it comes to service i would not go anywhere other than betts.

I can't believe you big babies crying and blubbering about the quality of loaners that you get that aren't suitable for your station in life and your delicate butts. When I take my CTS to the dealer I have to bum my own ride or walk. Be thankful for what you get, it could be a whole lot worse. Don't tell me to go to our local Mercedes dealer. They offer you one of their rentals for twice the going rate.

It wouldn't so much be an issue if everyone recieved the same service level 'across the board'. I do not like the fact that they discriminate against me because of my age. Any person at that dealership over 25 can have a caddy loaner but not me because im only 21. Well if I paid the same for the car, I should get the same service as the guy next to me. Having owned a few luxury cars in my day, a service standard is in place and embedded in my mind, we pay a premium to receive premium service (If I knew it were different over at GM, I should have just bout a Sunfire). Never have I had a problem with getting an equivelant loaner car since the age of 16 (they are all leather lined, sunroof adorned), so why now???

My point is, if they can't figure out a way to get me a Caddy loaner, then get rid of all the Caddy loaners and see how many upset, disgruntled middleaged people you will have....LOTS, so why should it be any different for me?

As for Mercedes charging you guys up in Alaska, that sucks, because they have to provide a Mercedes loaner car upon prior request in Canada, its not a choice they have.

its because your 21, until 25 they cant give you a real nice loaner due to insurance issues. When my dad gets a loaner for his car, technically im not even suposed to drive it since im underage. I also dont get a caddy when going to the dealer due to my young age, but they still gimme a fine car. Better than bumming a ride. haha

Man with all the horror stories I keep hearing, I'm glad I have a good service dept here. Last time I had my car in they did some warantee work and loaned me an H3 for the day. The girl at the counter said that since I wasnt 25 she wasnt supposed to give me one, but she could see I was already driving a Caddy and took good care of it, so she wasnt going to put me in some POS loaner. When I came back to pick up my car it turned out it wasnt ready yet; I'd decided I didnt like the Hummer at that point so she let me trade up to an SRX. Thats Lockhart Cadillac for any of you in the Indianapolis area BTW...

haute heir, I see your point and feel your pain. When I was your age I felt I was being discriminated against in a contract issue. At least here everyone is screwed equally with the loaner issue. If just one dealer broke ranks the rest would have to follow. I guess it's the old classic cartel.

First of all: don't go back to smoking again.

Second: I know its a bitch to be treated like a baby because you don't have the age.. be patient. Understand is not the dealership but the insurance.
About the loud sound its probably the fan clutch dying, don't worry its covered by the warranty.
About the sputtering its pretty normal on this weather because the fuel/air mix is on the lean side. The problem is that our CTS has the engine mounts really hard so you can feel that sputtering a lot more than other cars, the upside is that you can feel the engine working when you put the pedal to the metal.

Don't hate her.. better to love her and in return will give you many happy miles. :)

The CTS engine also goes through a gradual learning procedure to set operating parameters. I can start mine when it has sat overnight at -20F and it runs smooth as silk. It used to be a little rough but the roughness went away.

I can actually feel the AC kicking in in the accelerator pedal...
Though, I hope it is nothing serious! Also, I hope you keep from smoking ;)
