Engine replacement on an 88 Coupe

Hello everyone,

My head gasket went on my 88 Coupe (4.5L), I was fortunate to find at the junk yard an engine and tranny from a 89 coupe with 35,000 miles on it
My friend and I will be putting the engine and tranny in. I got the tranny because mine had 189,000 orig miles on it (with no problems), and I thought that since I am replacing the engine I should do the tranny because eventually it might go also, and I thought that everything will match up good since they both came out of the same car. Since I have 14" wheels, and the 89 had 15" wheels..will that make any difference using the tranny from the 89.

Also besides changing the routine tune up stuff.. Is there anything else I should change on the engine while I have it out of the car.. ?
I am going to do the oil pan gasket.
thanks for all the help, this site is great!

Everything you have should bolt right up. I'd strongly suggest taking a number of detailed digital photographs (in the highest resolution your camera can produce), especially of electrical and vacuum connections, brackets, etc. This can save you hours of guessing games and many headaches later on. Draw diagrams of things you can't photograph well. If you have an extra hand, have someone make a numbered list of the order in which things come apart, then reverse it to put them back together.

You might want to throw in a fresh set of plugs and plug wires on the replacement engine while it's out. You'll never have better access to all 8.

Good luck! Post your results!
Thanks...
I am going to change the spark plugs with delco rapidfire..my wires are good from my old engine so I will use them
I will update as I get going with it, and post some pics
