I would leave it in place. They would not spend money on it if it wasn't needed... If it's thin plastic and foam you might be OK as that is usually for sound attenuation.
Foil/aluminum/thick plastic is to prevent damage to the hood/paint.

I'm willing to bet that cover helps channel air coming up from the lower radiator through the top of the engine. Without it the air may just sit there. Also, the foam that is under the cover helps quiet the HP fuel pump noise. Otherwise the GDI would sound like a diesel.

If they only put it there for looks they clearly missed the mark.

As mentioned above, the engine cover is probably primarily there for NVH reasons to quiet down the injector and HPFP noises.

Speaking of engine covers, did anyone notice the 2019's have an optional carbon fiber engine cover? $1295 option...

Ya, seen that. Almost insane price. You could just CF WRAP it with $50 material and 1 hour.

any year could have had a CF engine cover, it was an option for all years and all the GM Accessory sites have them for sale, I found a flash deal for a friend of mine, they got one for $500

It's an option that is available for all ATSVs however it only came out during the 2018 model year and newer as an option.

Is this something a person could still purchase?

Part # 12672525 for OEM

Have your wallet ready... lists for $1295, sells for about $1025

Scott (Tapout) makes one too, $780, but it looks a bit different from the OEM carbon cover. The GM carbon fiber cover is styled to sort of mimic the shape of the hood vents on the ATS-V, Scott's cover appears to be more of a splash/mold taken from the original plastic cover.

Personally I'd rather spend my money on things that make the car go faster rather than just looking faster (especially cosmetic bits that can only be seen with the hood open) but I'm weird like that. :ROFLMAO:

If you need a genuine GM LF4 engine cover, I bought two and had them both professionally PPF'ed using XPEL Ultimate. As I get closer to the LT4 engine swap, I realize I'm not going to use the spare unit, so if someone wants it, shoot me an offer. It's never been installed.
