First, love the cover!!! Best looking engine bay ever!!!

Second regarding the filter cover, I hate to tell you this, but it only catches LARGE particles that wouldn't make it through the filter anyway-its a pre-filter. Think about it, if it caught particles smaller than the filter could, you A) wouldn't need the filter, and B) would have much less filtering area to work with (the filter is pleated to create more area).

The idea was initially for rally racers and off-road racers. Their filters clogged quickly with mud. So they came up with the idea of a filter cover made from a non-stick material to catch the large bits of mud/dirt and let them fall off as the race cars thump and bump around the track. The idea is to keep the filter from clogging up with big bits and let it keep doing it's job on the smaller bits. On the street, it's just for appearance. Not that this is bad, as in your case, it looks sweet with that engine cover.

As to the filter looking dirty, don't worry about it, they flow like gangbusters even when they look really, really dirty. One of my landspeed record motorcycles had the turbo mounted in the low in the front center, right behind the front wheel. At El Mirage dry lake bed, you cannot believe the amount of fine, talc-like silt the filter would pick up during just one or two runs. We took the filters off the bike and put them on the flow bench, and they flowed within 95% of what they did fresh out of the box and oiled. And we never saw even a hint of dirt in the TB or intake, not even a smidge.

Anyone notice this offer for chrome plated engine covers. It appears in the CTS Forum. The priced with S&H is $225. Not a bad deal IMO.

We have an in-house hexavalent chrome plating process that allows us to chrome plate any plastic or polycarbonate substrate utilizing a copper, nickel and chrome plating process that actually places a metal surface over just about any plastic substrate.

THIS IS NOT A CHROME SPRAY PAINT. This is a 3 stage hexavalent chrome plating process!

The way this is accomplished is in how the substrate ( the plastic engine cover in this case ) is treated to create the adhesion properties for the 3 stage or hexavalent chrome to bind to the plastic substrate.

If you would like an example of the refractory process and hardness of the finish looks and appears; it is "exactly the same as the trim molding on the front of your CTS HOOD!"

That particular piece of hood trim molding is ABS plastic and looks and feels like chrome plated metal with all of the same protective properties. We utilize the same in house equipment and process to chrome plate plastic. Again, this is a plating process and not a chrome colored spray paint!

We normally charge $295.00 for this chrome plating process and provide a 1 year warranty.

So you're saying the cover is just for looks! I can live with that. :histeric:

When did you go to the open element, I thought you had just went with a tube replacement?
Bought the Ling' CAI right after I got the second V. The custom MAF to TB tube took about a month to get right.
