From what you have told us about the dealers in your area, I am sure that on the next warranty visit, they will see the engine cover and conclude that the flames on the engine cover increased operating temperatures to an unsafe level, therefore voiding your warranty.

I don't like the idea of running an open element filter but I LOVE the performance. The filter cover is just piece of mind. Probably only catches an additional 20% of contaminants but at least it helps. After a trip into the mountains over the 4th of July on some VERY dusty trails the filter was scary dirty. I had to get a cover after seeing that.
