So I have a 1993 Fleetwood with the 5.7. I'm trying to figure out the engine codes because I have a "service engine soon" light on. But when I go through the climate controls to find the codes it says there are none. I hit the warmer/off button at the same time and get the -00, -01, -02, etc. But, 0-4 says I have no codes. The SES comes on after the engine is running 5+ minutes but whether I check for codes when the car is on/off or the SES light is on/off it still says there are no codes. Anyone know whats up with this?
Next is the car has an issue with driving slow (don't we all have this issue? haha). But when driving down my back alley or parking lots or intersections through town, the car acts like it is losing fuel or air. 99% of the time, pressing the throttle does nothing. when I'm driving above 20mph the car runs perfect! better than the 04 Ram HEMI I had before that had almost 3x the HP. But, under 20mph the car does this stalling thing. Anyone run into this? Only thing I can come up with is the fuel filter is clogged (it hasn't been replaced in a long time) or the fuel pressure regulator is going bad because it really feels like I'm losing fuel or fuel pressure. If the car does stall out it starts right back up perfectly fine. And I don't know if this has anything to do with it but when the fuel gauge goes under 1/4 the car could stall out at any time like there's no fuel left at all. Even if the low fuel light doesn't come on. I had it stall out on me while pulling into a gas station with just over 1/8th of a tank left according to the fuel gauge. My Father-in-law gave me this car back in November, his wife was the one driving it and she said it had been like this for a long time. I do know that the car has been emissions exempt (car is inspected in PA) because she never puts more than 5,000miles on in a year. She doesn't remember when this issue started or when the SES light came on either. I do know that they had most of the major tune up stuff done on regular intervals but he doesn't remember the last time the fuel filter was changed.
Also. what has everyone done to pull a little more power out of this engine?
