To get ready for an emissions test I try to drive the car far enough to get the coolant temp. into the thermostat=open range and give it a few bursts of full throttle operation.

Your particular DTC could be as simple as the brake pedal switches are not adjusted properly. Can you "feel" torque converter lock-up at around 45 MPH under light throttle??
