RE: a '94 Eldorado. There is an electrical "glitch" that concerns me.

Periodically (especially in hot weather) the digital displays for Odometer, Trip, Fuel Economy will go on the fritz and the A/C switches to defrost and blows warm air. It can remain that way for a little while or as long as a week. During the winter it ran for four months without a problem. When the problem occurs there is no cold A/C.

Hot weather seems to trigger it more often.

What could be causing the problem and any idea of the $'s to fix it?

Thanks!

I'm having the same problems with my '92 Eldorado...all the gauges as well as the LED displays cut out...the blower kicks on and for no apparent reason everything turns on again periodically. Have you gotten any help/solutions for your problem? Thanks!

I believe this was already discussed. The 800-series circuit in the instrument panel cluster is faulty. You will need to replace the cluster.

Where? I'm having difficulty locating it by search.
I'm encountering the same problem as these two folks in my 92 Eldorado. Where is, and how do you replace the IPC cluster?

COULD be a problem with the cluster. The cluster is what your looking at while driving. The cluster is also known as the IPC.

All the computers in the car 'talk' to each other on the UART circuit 800 tan line.

If one of the computers go bad, it can corrupt the signal on circuit 800. Hence, a bunch of 'loss of data' codes. This problem can also be caused by a bad intermittant IPC.

The computers on circuit 800 are:

IPC
ECM/PCM
DERM
ACP
ABS
RSS

IF its a bad IPC. They are about $300 exchange from Delco radio/speedometer repair shops.

The problem can be a 500 mile intermitant type issue. Thus it can be very tricky to pinpoint which computer. Good luck!

Thanks Logan! I know all my codes are cleared but IPC keeps coming up with data codes which aren't discussed in these forums (that I can locate anyway). I'll see what I come up with.

Could be. A UART problem or bad cluster can set these codes...

IO34
IO37
IO39
IO52
PO52
PO109

Etc...

You will often get false messages also...

'stop engine, low oil pressure'
'service airbag system'

Typically all is well, then the fuel data and hvac data display goes '--' .

Then the hvac defrost lamp turns on....hvac goes to defrost...

Then the service engine lamp...and the false display messages.

Sound familiar?

Other possible codes not listed on US sites. Export clusters have a different code set....things like 'code 48'. The export cadillac dealers had their own code sets. All of that information was, well....exported.

half these guys dont know what the hell there talking about
i had as simple of a question of

ok my right blinker along with my right brake light are acting up... when problem is engaged the right blinker and brake light will not light up or work; when the right blinker is turned on the dash right turn single light will stay solid...
ive noticed pushing around messing with the wires.. either fush box wires.. or steering column wires will make these two functions operate properly... any suggestions.. im thinking a loose wire in one of the harnesses.. can someone direct me to the problem exacly.. what color coated wire would be the problem... certain harness.. relay.. by the way, when the right blinker and right brake light problem is active the left sides work just fine.. thanks, brian

no one could reply and give me a answer it took a simple trip to the library to check out some repair manuals to check the wiring diagrams verse a awaited reply, along with another problem of a sticky egr valve people coming off with there response of oh yeah run fuel injection cleaner and clean the tubes within the throtle body (air) intake and that should fix ur problem

and by the way i doubt the "800 series cluster is the problem.. come on smart guy... the cluster does not control its self... hows a display gauge going to make the heat turn on.. the (cluster gage) controls output displays they dont control functions.. the mainboard before the cluster which i havent did any research im thinking the sub computer not your (ecm computer located by the passengers side) has problems... im not a mechanic thought.. has the problemlll..

Sounds very familiar Logan. Its as if the computer thinks the vehicle is running when all I'm doing is turning the key on for a diagnostic test.
Before I post the diag report, I'll mention that I've pulled the fuse powering the defroster so I don't have to deal with that during transit. If any of the following data indicates this, I'm sure you'll reflect that. Keep in mind that although this thread topic refers to a '94 Eldorado, mine is in fact a '92 Eldorado w/152,xxx K on the 4.9 and it is not the Touring Coupe.

Ok ...The diagnostics are as follows;

v denotes selecting "LO" fan
^ denotes selecting "HI" fan

Enter Diagnostics ie: OFF + Warmer

No EMC Data.

IO33 Current (loss of SIR data)
IO34 Current (loss of PCM data)
IO37 Current (loss of ACP data)
IO39 Current (loss of RSS data)

No ACP Data
No SIR Data

EMC? - v
IPC? - ^
IPC DATA? - ^
10.2 ID40 - ^
0 ID42 - ^
12.1&2 ID50 - ^
O ID60 - ^
8 ID90 - ^

O ID97 - ^
4357 ID98 - ^
4456 ID99 - OFF (^ starts list over again)

HI O II07 - ^
HI O II09 - ^
LO O II10 - ^
HI O II11 - ^
HI O II12 - ^
LO O II65 - ^
LO O II90 - ^
LO O II91 - ^
LO O II93 - ^
LO O II94 - OFF (^ starts list over again)

IPC OVERRIDE? - ^ (overridding I assume?)
ISOO - ^
--- IS08 then the 3 dashes "---" flash to "008" IS08 - ^
--- IS09 then the 3 dashes "---" flash to "001" IS09 - ^
IS45 - OFF (^ starts list over again.)

IPC CLEAR CODES? - ^
IPC CODES CLEAR - ^
IPC SNAPSHOT? - ^
IO33 SNAPSHOT? - ^
IO33 DATA? - ^

At this point it seems to recall all of the IPC DATA as listed above, then continues through another cycle of diagnostics if I so select.
THESE are the data ID's & INPUTS that I'm unable to obtain info on.
Sorry for such a long post, I just hope you'll be able to decipher it.
Thanks again in advance,
John

On my 92 cadillac eldorado, I had a similar problem. Trip meter, and engine temperature gage went to dashes "--". The speedometer went to 0, and then to max. The AC turned on. The transmission kicked out of overdrive when this happened. I tried repairing/replacing the instrument panel, but it was actually the BCM module which was faulty.
