Hi everyone. I recently got a used ECM to put in my 95 Fleetwood but someone told me that I need to take it to a Cadillac dealership first and have my Vin number setup in it before it could be installed and for the car to start run work correctly. Is there any truth to this?

I meant to say 94 Fleetwood

BTW the used ECM came out of a wrecked 94 Fleetwood also.

I think it will work. Plug it in and try it. I change ECM's on my 94 Park Ave with no issues.

If it's an 8051 PCM, and it came out of the same year (this is important), the only difference in programming could be for the rear end ratio, and possibly the trans shifting. It will work, but it should be optimized for your car.

Yeah, I see the gear ratio could throw you a curve. FWD Buicks all have the same gear ratio so it's easier swappin'.

What about the key resister setting for the anti-theft system? is that set in the ECM or somewhere else? I know you can have the ECM flashed to remove this feature but I'm not sure where the actual resistance value it is looking for is set.
